Just wondering if anyone else here who works in a clinic/animal shelter has problems when using chlorine bleach during cleanup, like headaches dizziness itchiness & feinting. If so how do you overcome it? Thanks. We use concentrated sodium hypochlorite 5% chlorine.

Thankyou,
Nevyn

It's a very toxic substance. Dilute it more maybe. Just think what the dogs are experiencing!

I do when using it on Rusty's crate after diarhea (somebody was eating woodchips and they don't come out on a regular basis.)

I think it's because it reacts with the urine & fecal matter to make ammonium chloride (the reason you don't mix bleach with cleaning ammonia) and while it's not enough to cause a disaster, it can make you feel faint.

Not a chemist. I overcome it by turning on the bathroom fan, if it's not already on, and making the boyfriend finish the job Emotion: wink

Given some of "Nevyn's" idiotic postings here, I'd have to say that the chlorine vapors have probably already done some major damage. Emotion: smile

Chlorine bleach gives me a headache when I just use it in the laundry. Headache goes away with fresh air.
Check on the container (or on the web) to make sure you're not using an overly concentrated solution.
