I have 1 inch to 2 inch pink slugs on the dry island in my turtle tank and I really appreciate them cleaning up on the extra fish food (I also have fancy guppies in the shallows of this turtle tank) that accidentally gets spilled onto the dry island. My next plan for the turtle tank is to grow some greenhouse plants on the dry island but I will need to find an all natural insect pest repellant as the last time I grew greenhouse plants on the dry island pests took over the island and ate all of the plants, the plants grew good at first because at first the pests weren't there yet. Later all!

Pink slugs..did you put them in there, or did they just appear? Any photos?

They just appeared, probably when I added the greenhouse plants that one time. I'd like to keep them so I need a pest repellent that won't hurt the slugs. I will submit pictures of them (they have always been small) to one of the binaries (appropriate) newsgroups and a pointer here, sometime soon, like within one or two months (they hide allot). Thanks for the response, later!

What kind of bugs were they? Are you sure the slugs didn't eat the plants? Maybe a glue fly strip hung from the top, if they were flying pests? Or a predator bug? I can't think of any insecticide that wouldn't kill the slugs, fish and everything else.

Not flying pests, tiny beetle/ant like creatures. I could see them crawling on the plants and digging into their roots in the dirt. Slugs can eat plants I am sure but I would like to get some fast growing terrestrial (emersed, not submersed) weeds that the slugs couldn't keep up with as far as eating them all up. That would be cool!
