So I'm off to the store to get him some essentials, and tomorrow, our new

dog, Bailey, will be here! YIPPEE!!

You can't miss with a Bailey! I have a Bailey and he is a wonderful dog.
Congratulations on the new pooch
Denise
she knows this already. She is only 11,

I apologize - from your posts I thought she was college age!
and when she was only 6, our 5 year old dog who was very strongly bonded to her died from pancreatitis.

I understand her fear then. but it seems you've talked it through.
The good news is that we just got off the phone and she agreed to let me get him with ... will be easier for him to eat and drink out of since he's so big. I can do that!!

LOL! Tell her that you need to research the raised bowls though - initial thoughts that they help prevent bloat apparantely were wrong.

That is very cool. And I agree with the monogrammed bed. But - I will never put a dogs name on a bed or bowl again. I have some that I can't part with and feel weird about. Rudy gets to eat out of Teddy's bowl though (Teddy - first Golden, died in 2000), so that makes him pretty special!
Thanks for all the great suggestions. I was fully prepared to pull out the "it's this dog or no dog" line. At least she doesn't hate me (though I'm sure she'll find another reason to do so soon enough).

If she's 11, you've got a bunch of years for her to find reasons! UGH!

no worries, how could you know? Besides, she thinks she's college age.

Actually, that gives me an excuse to hold onto at least a few dollars (for now)!

Rudy sounds pretty darn special! And as to the bed... hopefully Bailey the dog will outlast Bailey the bed. =)

She's already very adept at this. Fortunately, I don't take much personally. I do keep telling her she'll never be too old for me to change my stance on spanking, though. ;-)

AWESOME!!!
Congrats to Bailey, and a special congrats to you guys. He sounds like a very special dog.
And your daughter sounds like a real hoot! I love that she went from "No, he's too old" to "He's MINE" in a matter of hours.

I think there won't be any problem bonding there :-)

Also, it's just a plain old pleasure to hear about adoption situations where it sounds like everything's being set up for success (right expectations, training plans, extensive pre-adoption homework, etc.). Wish more people did that.

True that.
Its amazing how a scenario like that can put a grin on my face..even when its "just" words on my 'puter screen.

She made you think that this was no-go, and then "negotiated" to get pretty much everything she wanted. Needs watching, if you ask me; you never know whether she aspires to world domination.

If she ever gets her little hands on my Spellchucker, we're all screwed.

I think you are both right. Holy cow! I better not turn my back on her ever again!!
So I just practically bought out the local Feeder's Supply. The guy that runs the places knows me all too well and said, "so you must have found a dog, huh?" I told him all about Bailey and he insisted I stop by with him on the way home tomorrow. He also gave me a stack of store coupons from a "new puppy coupon book" which I made very good use of.

I do have to say that when I was selecting toys, I was kicking myself for not paying closer attention to the durable dog toys thread. Hehe.
