I have a 6 year old rescued Tzu Male. Installed a doggie door for him and he is terrified of it. Part of the problem (I think) is he as only one eye and no depth perseption. Anyway, any ideas?
TIA,

I'm not speaking from experience here unless my friend telling me how she taught her cat to use her cat door counts.
I'd say first to make sure the door swings freely so your dog isn't bumping his head to get it to open. Sometimes dogs are afraid because they've been hurt. They're not stupid.
Then I'd say to enlist the help of a friend. Put your dog on a leash. One of you gets on one side of the door and the other on the other side. Both of you coo encouragement, as your dog is gently pulled through with the leash. You go back and forth a few times with loads of praise and good wishes on both sides.
Is it possible that your dog isn't terrified, just has no desire to use the door? He might be happy where he is.

Sham had a hard time with our dog door. Best I could guess, SheBop must've gone through it at warp speed and the recoil smacked Shammie in the snout. Whatever, Sham didn't even want to go near it.
So we propped it open and put up with misquotoes for awhile until she was using the 'hole' with no problem. (Even so in the beginning, we had to lure her through with treats;->)
Then we hung a light towel over the hole, just so a bit of it touched her back, then a bit longer, then covering it entirely so that she had to nose her way thru it.
Then we hung some clear plastic stuff we got from an upholstry shop, and frankly, we stopped there. The dog door is off a screen porch, so it doesn't need to be secure or anything, so that works fine for us.
