Three and a half years ago, my community got together to beg our dog-friendly city government to open one of the community pools to dogs and their owners on the day after the pool is officially closed.

Last evening was the third "Doggy Dip" and $1,200 was raised for The Citizens Committee for Lakewood Animal Shelter.

As usual, a great time was had by all.
We also found that people come just to see the event, whether or not they bring dogs!

I saw this as an 'upcoming event' in the news a week or so ago! What a great idea! I wish more communities would consider something like this.

I bet it was a fun time for all, how could it be anything else!

Around here we have a few resale shops, Cause for Paws, proceeds going to Second Chance Pet Rescue. Was wondering if that was local or National?

Super photos! Especially loved that little beagle (?) finally making the plunge. ;-) The big black dog behind it reminded me so much of murphy. She would have loved going for a swim! Thanks for the link. Passing it along to my hubby.

I really enjoyed the photos. Everyone and everydog was having a good time, and all the dogs looked so happy and healthy. A great fund raising idea, and a huge success.
Do you know if the Dal ever got into the water?

Do you know if the Dal ever got into the water?

I wasn't there, unfortunately. I thought in one photo the Dal had two feet off the ground, READY!
I wish more communities would consider something like this.

It took some pushing and it took some information from other communities that had gone before.
There are still some citizens that find it disgusting, but the pool will have to be cleaned before humans use it again, anyway.

Our Public Works Director was not thrilled with the idea, but was encouraged to go forward. Once he saw how the event went, he was completely won over. He now talks about the event throughout the year.

Hell, I'd rather swim with the dogs anyday over kids who are known to pee in pools! And people who take infants in who do worse than pee in pools!!
