No. What's the difference between squishing them with a shoe or rock?
It's not like the lighter is close to me. I have yet to see them pop. I typically burn their legs off and then I would think they would die?

I agree Shelly, ticks are the worst creatures in the world and we have such a huge problem with ticks in the area where I live. Frontline doesn't even touch them unless you apply the medicine every two weeks or so. As we speak, a new batch just hatched in my house and my SO woke up to 4 of them crawling on his legs. We bathe our dog about every two weeks with tick & flea shampoo, we give him frontline, what else can we do? Every dog I've had has had this problem as well as my friends and neighbors dogs.

It's just the way of the world. At least we've got it somewhat under control right now. There's been times I've taken 9 out of one of my dog's paws in one sitting. Ticks are just gross. (But I hate them so much I do squish them between my fingers. Usually, tho, I flush them down the toilet.)

Where were you 10 years ago when I was flirting with Lyme Disease and didn't know it?

Wouldn't have done you any good to have known me back then, Matt. I knew just as much about Lyme ticks and Lyme disease as I did about rocket science. Suja

So are you saying that now you know more about rocket science?

I know it sounds sadistic, but I squeeze their legs off sometimes so that they can't go anywhere! It's my way of saying, "Hah!"

Frontline doesn't do a thing for them, at least not anymore. i've had good success with amitraz collars. there are some safety issues, but they're a must for me. as long as your cats (if you have any) don't groom your dogs and, if you have multiple dogs, they don't chew on each other's collars, they should be okay to use. the nice thing about amitraz is that the ticks mouths are paralyzed and they cannot bite the dog (or you!).
this is the best deal i've been able to find on them:

eeek! another regular poster, Cate, had a tick bloom (hatching out) in her home. IIRC she had good luck using K9 Advantix. i believe it's got permethrin in it, which is toxic to cats, so i haven't tried it myself.
another thing you can do, if you don't have a huge yard, is to dust it with diatomaceous earth. it's non-toxic to mammals (wear a dust mask, because breathing it can irritate your lungs). it works by piercing the exoskeleton of the bug and dehydrating it. you can find DE in most home and garden stores. the main caveat with DE is that it will kill good bugs, too, so beware.

none, i would think.
the problem with burning them is that they pop, which sprays the juicy bits all over the place. the same thing doesn't happen when you crush them with a rock or shoe.

i've never done it, so i don't know. does pulling the wings off flies kill them?

Actually, I do know more about rocket science now than I did back then, but I know a whole lot more about Lyme and ticks than I ever wanted to.

BTW, have you considered using a Preventic collar on your pup? It's considered 100% effective. Of course, you can't use it if your dog is sensitive or you have cats.

Apparently, you're not supposed to do that either. I'm a ... 'em underfoot or use a stone to squish 'em. Suja

I flush them, unless I'm unsure about the type, in which case they go into a jar so I can look them up.
