Well, the milksnakes are getting fed again tonight. The femal ate mouse and a chick with no problem. The male, as before, has been wrapped in a pillow case with a mouse and two chick legs and will be left overnight. Since it worked about a few days back I have my fingers crossed!!

My Royal turned her nose up at the rat she was offered - doesn't surprise me as she still seems big from her last meal. Never had to worry about her not eating for a long time so she'll wait now till next week Emotion: smile

My C Rainbow Boa scoffed the rat that the royal didn't want - I just love the way she scoops up anything the other guys+gals don't wish to eat!! Emotion: surprise)

Biggest surprise was my Corn snake, Houdini. Normally one or two mice but tonight he was on a mission and stuffed himself with three! I thought it was going to be too much but afterworking out a way to get back into his hide (Poor thing was too big!!) he's setlled down and looking really pleased!

I love animals, full of surprises, never the same. Its great fun with me snakes and cats and horse riding - never can tell what'll happen next!! Emotion: surprise))

Adult corns don't know when to stop. My male once ate a nearly adult rat and still tryed to eat also the females mice (don't worry, I'm allways present, ready to shoo him away). After that big meal I left him a month without food, he had eaten 3 small rats the meal before, and all the meals before 2 or 3 adult mice. Now he's back on 1 mouse per week.

I hope my little fella eats as well as that!

Wow! what a pig LOL ... reminds me of my hoggie. One time, not long after he'd come off a 4 month fast, he downed 3 pinkies plus a fuzzy in one sitting!!! and he was only around 16" long at the time and almost doubled his girth with that meal Emotion: big smile

Animals are just the best for entertainment value. I can spend hours watching them and they make me laugh so much with their antics. I didn't realise you were into horses too. Do you have your own or ride at a school? My old mare died 5 years ago and boy do I miss her so much. She was my guardian angel Emotion: smile

Hiya Chloe,
I ride at a local school - i'm still learning really but its great fun. I had my first fall trying to get into a canter on Wednesday evening - bruised ribs and a sore bum - nothing worse! Emotion: surprise)
I've kinda got quite attached to the horse I ride at school - he's really quite good fun and I'm sure he knows who I am Emotion: surprise) Its so sad when you lose a friend even if its a few years back..
Do you still ride then yourself?

Just let the male milk out of the pillow case. The mouse and two chick legs have been gobbled-up again Emotion: surprise)
I'm really pleased about this Emotion: surprise) I'll feed him again in a few more days as these meals are really quite small and he does
need to put on weight..

Yea! That's really great Jon. So glad you won't have to force-feed him!

Hi Z,
Yea - its great that he's started on his own - so much better for him and me!! Emotion: surprise) Means I can start thinking about breeding the Peublans next year as I wasn't going to if he still had eating problems.. The milks really do seem to like the chicks - they have a stonger smell than mice and it obvious that they both really like them!!

Cheers,
Jon
Hi Z, Yea - its great that he's started on his own - so much better for him and me!! ... like the chicks - they have a stonger smell than mice and it obvious that they both really like them!!

Hey Jon,
Do you find feeding chicks produces stinkier slimier snake ***? I've read it can possibly have this effect. I have chicks available to me right down the street at Cenex but don't want to convert any snakes over if it means more poo. Right now most of my collection is eating mostly naked mice, the hairlessness results in less poo and that makes me a happy girl. I alternate with the occasional hairy mouse just in case they need fiber running through their system to keep them cleared out.
I love Pueblan milksnakes! Mine is a ham, always being a character and making me laugh. Just curious - if yours are adults, what size are they? I don't know the age of my Pueblan as he was a rescue from a deceased person's home. He's just about 3.5 feet long and about as big around as my husband's thumb. My honduran is over 6 feet long and much larger in diameter, I often wonder if my Pueblan will ever catch up with him. If so, I'd like to house them together someday. I think their contrasting bands would look lovely together!

Hiya fr0glet!,
Yea- chicks do seem to produce poo that has got an aroma all of its own!! and its vey much wetter/slimier and all-round worse - but - they love chicks and compared to the poo my cats produce (sometimes!) its nothing really ;o) You soon know if the snakes have poo'd and you've missed cleaning it up though! I don't reckon that they produce more though than compared with poo'd mice.
Mine are adults and they have been breeding for a number of years - I also don't know there exact age but its estimated at about 6-8 years. They are between 3.5 - 4 feet long and when on a flat surface and you look staright down the are about 1" across. Sounds like you have an adult and I think that Pueblans are one of the smaller Milks so I'm not expecting too much more growth.
Hope that helps!
How's the new un? Those pictures of the stripey fella look good!! Emotion: surprise)
