Sabba the short-tail python finally acted like she was used to eating dead rodents today. For a change, she didn't strike and constrict the dead rat for 20 minutes. Instead, I wiggled it for her for just a moment and then dropped it. She nosed her way up to the smallest point on the rat... which was unfortunately its forearm. She spent a good 10 minutes attempting to eat it from the arm first, wiggling it around into different positions trying to get her mouth further onto it, then finally spit it out and tried from the correct end.

No fast movements, no constricting. Hopefully this is her new trend! Boy am I ever sick and tired of doing the "I'm really alive!" dance with a jumbo rat for 20 minutes at a time. Makes my arm tired when its a huge honkin' rat and all I have to make it dance is my BBQ tongs.

I love the way snakes will grab a rodent with just a single coil so they can better maneuver their mouth onto it... so ingenious to act like you have arms where none are present.

It is my karma to have semi-idiotic adult kingsnakes, who are forever enveloping their prey and trying to eat it while fully coiled around it with no trace of it protruding.
But at least they're eating. Which, with my past experience, is all I ask of any kingsnake. But the Mensa F/T Eating Squad is in no danger of them joining.
Ahh..my Boa is eatig her two jumbo rats as I read this. And of course, turning her water bowl over in the process..lol. Congrats on getting your Python to eat without the "dance of the dead rat". I'm sure those jumbos will wear your arm out quick! I know the two I got today are HUGE!!
Do you have any pictures of Sabba online? You may have posted some, and I just missed them.

Yep! My beauty is here:

The colors of those images is terrible, the only one that has her tones right is the one in the upper right hand corner:

Although that humidifier is now defunct. I now use a cool mist ultrasonic humidifier with a 2 gallon reservoir, right inside the cage with her.

Beautiful Python! I had a chance to get one of those a couple years ago, and didn't do it. May be something to think about for next Spring..:-)
Thanks for posting the pics!
