Hi All~ Brian (Milenko13) here, using the his/hers account.

Yesterday I picked up what was SUPPOSED to have been only 1.5 dozen large feeder crickets for "Kahless" the 4-striped Plated lizard. Well, as usual, they gave me a rather generous dozen. After his usual feeding frenzy, there are STILL at least a dozen noisy little chirpers left! Now I don't like leaving the un-eaten ones in his tank, as they inevitably end up drowned in his water dish. I also don't want to toss them out in the snow or flush them. Then I remember seeing these "oh so cool looking" Fire Bellied Toads for only 3 or 4 dollars at the store. Hmmm, I think, an interesting overflow mouth for uneaten crickets...not just today, but it happens other times here & there.
The only thing is...are F.B.T.s known to chirp/croak a lot (especially at night) ? My wife is hating the "cricket song" at night and I don't wanna go from bad to worse!
Please post OR e-me at this account w/ any helpful information. Thanks, Brian.

Well FBT are SUPPOSED to be mostly dirurnal...but.. Lets just say that with my 4 there are nights that are kinda annoying. Its not super loud...just continious..on and on..and on.. Depends on the proximity to the sleeping area I guess.

Check the size if the crickets too..My FBT cant take a full grown cricket.
Good luck..maybe some small lizards?

The FBT's at my job sing ALL day, loudly, and when we throw freight until midnight we can hear them singing then too. The females don't sing.

I have two FBT i hardly ever hear them .They must be female .

Hey soggynetnut, the risk of feeding "outside" bugs to your frogs is that the bugs may have been exposed to pesticides or fertilizers. You may be slowly poisoning your frog and not know it. If you live in a very urban area or a farming area the risk is increased, if you live out in the sticks and there's no farmers around then the risk is reduced.
