It's starting to sound like I'm the only one who thinks bowties are the right answer. Big bowties. No, I mean really* BIG bowties, wider than the dog at least. Really big *sequined bowties. With sunglasses to match.

With wiper blades on the sunglasses!
Yeah, baybee!
I'm guessing you're gonna be awhile getting that image out of your head. HTH.

Heh.
I know it will take *me* awhile.

And way too funny. Is that your dog, Katra?

For my gang - they are fine with any sort of costume on their bodies but are none too happy with things stuck on their heads (such as reindeer antlers or Santa hats). I don't force the issue.
Not necessarily. I wouldn't put flowers on ... dog, and I thought the flowers would look pretty, I'd put flowers on him.. kinda seems appropriate for a wedding.

Since Pablo is a tri-colored smooth collie (for a photo of Mr. Pablo go to http://home.twcny.rr.com/cjungart/ , top of the second page) and, as such, is always appropriately dressed for the finest occasions. To compliment his tux, he has the choice of two bow ties - one basic black and one festive red/black/gold plaid. He looks dashing in either.

Pablo hasn't ever worn flowers but he does have a hot pink mountain rope collar (it was on sale). I've had one or two folk ask in all seriousness why my obviously male dog is wearing pink and I tell them that Pablo is secure in his masculinity and that he likes his pink collar because it makes him feel pretty. ;-)
I would love to find some sort of jeweled collar for Zeffie but since she has such a thick, plush ruff, most fancy collars are wasted on her. For one Halloween party, I took apart a fancy plastic tiara, heated and reshaped it and glued it to her forehead (I used a surgical "skin bond" glue we use for training collie ears). She looked regal and since it didn't touch or constrict her ears, she didn't care. To complete the outfit, she wore a purple cape with "ermine" collar and thus went as "HRH, Zeffie, Queen of Colliedom." Unfortunately I didn't think to take pictures and, alas, we no longer have the tiara or cape.

Yeah, you're right. Fly's been traumatized ever since. http://www.victorsteel.biz/images/Dog/DOG7b/031012-1117-19.htm

My feelings are that dogs are dogs. They dont' need to be worried about stupid human gender roles. Kavik's white fur would look lovely with flowers on it. Just gorgeous.

Exactly right. Bad enough that we have to live with gender stereotypes, why force it on dogs who couldn't care less? So, just what sorts of flowers were you thinking of using? I think that Kavik would look stunning in red roses.
Do you think costumes on dogs is cruel?

Depends on whether the dog hates the costume. I could most likely dress Khan up in whatever I choose, as long as I don't put things on his head. Most dogs I know won't tolerate costumes, and at least one that I know who has little hair and no body fat on her absolutely froze when they put a sweater on her.
Do you think boy dogs should wear bow ties instead of flowers?

Nah. Whatever you choose, make sure it is edible. Some flowers are toxic, and lots of the showy stuff have been liberally doused with pesticides to keep them looking so pretty and perfect.

Do you think boy dogs should wear bow ties instead of flowers?

Of course not! Boy dogs should wear what makes them the handsomestest, and if that is a flower garland, so be it!

Ahem.
*I* am the expert on handsome around here, and it's bow ties. Period.

Girls are about sugar and spice and all things nice...and flowers.

But boys are about frogs and snails and puppydogs' tails and...bow ties.
Even the Fab Five would agree.

Q: Because it reverses the logical flow of conversation. A: Why is top posting frowned upon?
: Dressing up : some poor dog like a bumble bee, complete with wings, body coverings, : and antennae, to me, is disrespectful and not something I'd subject my : dogs to. Yeah, you're right. Fly's been traumatized ever since. http://www.victorsteel.biz/images/Dog/DOG7b/031012-1117-19.htm

Heh. Love it.
I wouldn't be able to get a costume on Tanner, and Dolly would remove it within seconds, but Laika loves it, as it means he gets extra attention from all sort of folks, and that's something he thrives on.
