shouldn't better buy a flower toxicity book!! thanks rosa.

It's starting to sound like I'm the only one who thinks bowties are the right answer. Big bowties. No, I ... sequined bowties. With sunglasses to match. I'm guessing you're gonna be awhile getting that image out of your head. HTH.

I hate to say this, but Tok could get away with Elton John.

at least i will know the dogs won't complain to ... little!! My friends can complain for them to their therapists.

Exactly. Friends can be terribly sensitive about what we choose to do. I had any number of friends who made ... It was a win/win situation. But if that's all they have to complain about in life, more power to 'em.

The friend in question is a very good friend, and wouldn't push things on me that I didn't want - I guess she just feels like her little Maltese (haha!) is a macho guy, and thinks my guys should be the same. When I suggested that Toklat was a gay female impersonator in a past life she laughed and said I was right.

LOL, Debbie! I have heard this before. I think it depends on the dog. MY guys LOVE costumes because everyone makes a fuss over them. Some dogs are dignified and dont' care for costumes. My parents dog was like this.

Since Pablo is a tri-colored smooth collie (for a photo of Mr. Pablo go to http://home.twcny.rr.com/cjungart/ , top of the ... the choice of two bow ties - one basic black and one festive red/black/gold plaid. He looks dashing in either.

a smoothie in a bow tie sounds very fitting. Those long noses are so regal.
Pablo hasn't ever worn flowers but he does have a hot pink mountain rope collar (it was on sale). I've ... Pablo is secure in his masculinity and that he likes his pink collar because it makes him feel pretty. ;-)

Exactly. Whassup with that attitude that dogs care about pink collars?

Ahem. *I* am the expert on handsome around here, and it's bow ties. Period. Girls are about sugar and spice and all things nice...and flowers. But boys are about frogs and snails and puppydogs' tails and...bow ties.

Have you seen Kavik, Jack? Nothing frogs and snails or handsome in his appearance - he is as pretty as any girl dog he ever saw. Although, his personality is another story

My feelings are that dogs are dogs. They dont' need ... fur would look lovely with flowers on it. Just gorgeous.

Exactly right. Bad enough that we have to live with gender stereotypes, why force it on dogs who couldn't care less? So, just what sorts of flowers were you thinking of using? I think that Kavik would look stunning in red roses.

Wouldn't he?
I am not a rose fan, nor was I planning on carrying roses, but I think Kavik should wear what makes him look his best. Poor Tok won't hold a candle to the white dog on that day!
Most dogs I know won't tolerate costumes, and at least one that I know who has little hair and no body fat on her absolutely froze when they put a sweater on her.

It was so cold this weekend that Mike insisted that I put coats on the boys. They didn't mind. But they didn't need the coats either.
Do you think boy dogs should wear bow ties instead of flowers?

Nah. Whatever you choose, make sure it is edible. Some flowers are toxic, and lots of the showy stuff have been liberally doused with pesticides to keep them looking so pretty and perfect.

I think i might look into some expensive silks and see if they look worthy of my beast.

I think that is a grand idea. I personally don't think flowers of any kind would wear well on a dog for long. Depends on how long you have in mind. I would think they would get quite crushed very fast. The silk idea is marvelous and should hold up for the entire occassion.
A good friend of mine got married Saturday. Her color scheme was marvelous and the flowers in the bouquet were exquisite. Roses and some sort of lillies or orchid like flowers. I believe they were a type of lillie though.

Dillemma: wedding plans moving forward. Friends are criticizing my plans
to make my dogs wear flowers around their necks for the ceremony. Criticism
is generally about them being BOYS, not about how its cruel to make a dog
wear a flowery collar for 10 minutes. Bow ties were suggested as
alternatives.
My feelings are that dogs are dogs. They dont' need to be worried about
stupid human gender roles. Kavik's white fur would look lovely with flowers
on it. Just gorgeous.
If folks arguments were that putting costumes on dogs is horrible, that I
would get. But I don't get that boy dogs have to be macho, or have to play
the same stereotype as a human male. I think its a bizarro concept. Dogs
like flowers, or at least mine do. They spent hours last summer in my
garden sniffing all the different flowers. Was adorable. Do you think costumes on dogs is cruel?
