Today, a law was passed making pufferfish (fugu) ILLEGAL to eat in Florida.
"It made some people sick. Pufferfish are supposed to be edible when properly prepared. Scientists think it might be something from the lagoon"
How about tetrodotoxin, 1200 times more deadly than cyanide. A lethal dose would fit on the head of a pin.
Incredible!

Wow! We used to catch those off of the South Carolina piers. Someone told us to just eat the strips of meat along the back, which we did. Glad we got the right part..lol.

I've eaten them here in NC too, I don't think they are as dangerous as the tropical ones. I can't believe that they can be as many as get eaten around here by total amatures. has to more difficult to cook the japanese one than just eat the meat along the back. they go to school for years to learn how to cook them.

The skill is in cleaning and filleting them properly. I believe they eat them raw in Japan.

Wow, that is quite strange, especially being that Taylorsville is quite small from what I understand. My sister's psychotic ex-boyfriend is from Taylorsville and, thankfully, is currently living there once again. If this is the same place, you may know him. He was, at one time, (so he says) on the city commission until they figured out he was too young to be on there and made him step down.
Taylorsville is quite a small town. Nice, quiet & peaceful. Actually I don't know that many people from here tho. I am originally from Monroe, about 90 miles SE of here. Just east of Charlotte. Been here in the hills about 10 years now. If someone has ever been any kind of official, I wouldn't know them..lol.
