Today is the 3yr anniversary of the day we got Fancy. She was emaciated, hw+, timid with people and aggressive with other dogs. She kept to herself, obeyed all commands and looked to us for direction. Today she ignores what she thinks she can, occasionally pushes buttons, believes the house & all its contents belong to her & her alone (she lets us use them), is a total lapdog and, thankfully, healthy as a horse. The only timidity we see in her these days occurs when Pebbles is in a snit and Fancy fears for her life.

She feels at home! Congratulations, Tara.

Thank you Emotion: smile It feels like we've had Fancy forever, or since puppyhood anyway, yet 3 years really isn't that long. I just know I'm incredibly lucky to have her rather than vice versa.

happy got day, Fancy!

ha! now that sounds just like a Boxergirl. it's neat to see them blossom into their proper Eeevil Boxerness.

well, that's only good sense. one of the few things eeeviler than a Boxer is a Dachshund. they got a double helping of feistiness.

shelly (perfectly foul wench) and elliott & harriet http://home.bluemarble.net/~scouvrette

We can't all, and some just don't. That's all there is to it. A.A. Milne

"neat" is one way to describe it. "lowering" is another. Its pretty bad when you think back on how much you worried over this dog's mental well-being, on how much time you put into trust-building and spoiling to some extent until the dog shows its comfortable and relaxed. The reason its bad (with a Boxer) is due to the realization that, in all likelihood, you were being duped for 2/3 of the time you spent doing these things. Knowing the breed as we do, do you really think most of them don't settle right in then choose to milk the attention for as long as possible? I've seen so many settle down to a new home so quickly that it makes me wonder just how "traumatized" Fancy really was and for how long lol.

Yep. People look at Dachshunds, particularly Minis, and think "oh what a cuuute little dog!!!* The dog, btw, is looking at the gushing human thinking "oh how totally clueless you are and pleease don't change!!"

There is something refreshing when a dog has the sense of security that it will push a little.
Sounds like she's bloomed.

Happy "Got Day" to Fancy. I am glad she found you and she has bloomed into a confident dog. Tell Fancy that those little dogs sure can be hard to handle at times.

they may fool us hoomans, but they sure can't fool Lola. she's terrified of Doxies, the smaller the eeeviler.
have you ever seen a pit bull roll onto her back for a mini-Doxie? it's a funny sight indeed.
