today Manu and i were at the pet store, and he became obsessed with the bin of hooves. he ignored all the other goody bins, and kept trying to steal a hoof.
i broke down and bought one, but figured i'd ask here before giving it to him.
are these ok? is there anything i should watch for? he'd be supervised while chewing it.

Probably you'll hear from a lot of people about them. My experience is limited but I'll start the ball rolling.. I don't give them to my dogs (they don't know such things exist) but I gave them to past dogs once in a while. I know a lot of people who do and don't have problems. Manu is typical - most dogs absolutely love them.

HOWEVER, you will not want any Manu kisses when he has been chewing on the hooves.

It won't do much good to watch once a tooth has been broken chipped or cracked. Not to mention I have heard other problems with these hooves. Something they carry or contain. I can't remember I just know I don't/won't give them to my dogs.

There are varying views on whether or not they are ok. Watch closely, as hooves have been known to cause slab fractures of molars. If he chews too vigorously, I'd probably take it away from him.

I used to give these to my dogs, I have never had a problem with them (always supervised chewing) they get soggy and they STINK.. but the dogs LOVE them.. different colors smell worse but it has been so long I can't remember which..

Jesus, Gwen. You can supervise and take them away if you feel the dog is chewing too vigourously, which is what usually causes the slab fractures.
