My avian vet says that bands are not the best thing for identifying your bird because they can be taken ... to help identify their owners - the ones with microchips were all able to be reunited with their families. Plantmistress

I'm not sure if cutting the band off would destroy the info on it, if it goes all the way around the band or just around some of it. Never been able to look yet.

Cutting the band off would however destroy the chain of evidence if you ever needed to prove this bird is yours. I have bands galore around the place, old bands not used from years gone by..
