Hello!

Does anybody have a dog and cat as pets at the same time? Do they get on well? If yes, how did you introduce them to each other?
We're getting a new pup soon, a Beagle. But we already have a 5 years old cat, a domestic longhair. What can we do so that the two accept one another?

Any help is appreciated!

Charley
I would not worry about it at all, Charley. One of my friends has had cats and dogs together his whole life. Moreover, he just acquired a new pup a month or two back, and his 4 years old cat wasn't agressive. What's your cat's breed, by the way? But in any case, the pup will be friendly with the cat, and the cat basically would behave the same. Don't stress yourself about it. Emotion: wink However, the pup will have to respect the cat, but they'll figure it out, I am sure.
I haven't had such experience but are you sure they will get along well, Raphael? What if the cat is moody? What if the puppy is naughty?
Hi there,

This is a late reply and by now the puppy and cat are probably fine but oh well, when introducing out cats to puppies we usually just leave the cats inside and let the puppy roam around. The puppy usually leanrs soon enough that the cat will generally have higher power over them. The tend to get slapped a few times from the cats, but now mine are fine with one another... Except when the dogs gang up on them lol.

Late reply but hope it helps someone else Emotion: big smile

Is it like that for all the cases of dogs and cats living together? Emotion: surprise Or just when the cat is older?
