i have a Husky/Rottweiler mix that is a very clever, intelligent guy. I adopted him from the dog shelter about a month ago. He came here very much lacking in manners. Not what I would call genuinely aggressive. No lifted lip, no bared teeth, no snarl or growl. He just won't leave hands alone at all. I've worked with him, and he now knows how to sit, lie down, stay, and drop it. But for the life of me, I can't figure how to stop the mouthing. I've tried yelping when he mouths, leaving him for a couple minutes, ignoring him, and even hiding my hands behind my back. None of it is working. He just goes after hands with way more intensity. He's so sweet and a great dog. But the mouthing sometimes leaves imprints and occasionally hurts. He's very food motivated and that's what I've been using, in conjunction with positive praise when he does what he's told.

I do know some of his history: he was constantly kenneled outside, and I don't think he had proper socialization as a pup. I know it's not even been quite a month, but I want to do right by him, and teach him. I'm sure he's still getting settled in and getting used to things, but he's done this since he was a pup (he's 2 now). I have a 5 year old son and though he rarely bothers him, when he does, his mouthing hurts way more than it hurts me. That's why it's so important for me to find something that will work.
