Anonymous:So here's my situation.... I have a dog but I want also another one... there are two ways... to adopt again or to buy... the problem is that I want, I really want and dream about a SHEPHERD. A beautiful German Shepherd. The dog I have now is a Shepherd mix but I want a purebred one... and I feel so ashamed for this wish because there are so many abandoned dogs that need a home... they don't have a loving family... and I want to buy a pet for MONEY. My conscience is consuming me alive... I'm so sorry for the dogs that don't have an owner but my dream doesn't let me go. Did you have pangs of conscience when you were buying your purebred dog? Am I just an indecisive fool? Please advise what should I do...
I cannot tell you what to do, but I'll tell you this: you cannot help or adopt ALL the dogs that need a loving home. Besides, many pure bred dogs are mistreated too, unfortunately, so as long as the dogs are happy in your family, I'm sure you're doing everything right.
By going this route, you are avoiding the breeder situation, and rescuing a dog that could very-well end up in a shelter.
www.petfinder.com or Google "German Shepherd Rescue (your state)" to see if there are any available purebred shepherds in your area. I know where I'm from the pounds and shelters are FULL of them. Just fostered a purebred shepherd, 8 months old, not too long ago, and when walking through the pound helping a friend find her lost dog, there were about ten GSD's there about to be euthanized due to lack of space.
