i suspect that's breed- and situation-dependent. i have a male ... the female who starts fights between the two of them.

Yep. Brenin never starts fights, though he'll sometimes respond if challenged (by other male dogs who aren't pack members), and ... either Rocsi and Morag getting annoyed with each other, or Rocsi telling off Brenin for getting too near her food.

Females IMO will always be boss over a male in a home situation.

Between a male and a female if there is a fight the female will start a fight and finish a fight IMO and IME, as the guy gives in.

i suspect that depends, also. with my two, harriet starts fights, but elliott, once he's committed, will gladly finish them. elliott will usually do whatever he can to avoid a fight, but once one has started, he doesn't know the meaning of "give in."
Need not matter breed , as I see it all the time with mutts and other breeds.

you stated that there is never a male-female fight with your dogs. that's why i said it was likely breed-related.
Males go looking for trouble most times and want to fight other males,

not IME. neither of my dogs seems to care what the sex of the other dog is.
females look for trouble with other females a bit, but usually they both will stop fighting, and it is usually all talk and movement.

*** fights are notorious for being serious. some bitches will fight to the death. i wouldn't describe that as "all talk."

shelly, I was not asking you was I?

no, why would you have been asking me something while addressing Melinda? i thought i already told you that was a silly thing to do.
my point was that, while you obviously have more dog experience than anyone else on Planet Urth, my (or Melinda's) experience is going to different than yours. your IMEs and IMOs don't automagically trump other's IMEs and IMOs.
Didn't you ask me once why I was answering a question that you posed to someone else?

not the same thing at all. you addressed someone else in a reply to me. i'm addressing you in a reply to you. HTH!

No there isn't.
If there is any grumbling, from females to males the males back down.
that's why i said it was likely breed-related.

Ok, as we all have different experience. I have not seen a male fight with a female, and get into it.
While I might see grumblings with a weird male and female interacting, (neutered and spayed),I see it very infrequently.
Anyway FWIW I HATE dog fights, and do not tolerate them.

Could have something to do with being spayed?
i wouldn't describe that as "all talk."

Nor would I. I did say though IME AND IMO. : )
Paulette~
Yeah you got that right.

So says you.

HEY HAND!
Paulette~
I'm not as familiar with Borzios

Just an FYI- Gwen hit a couple of keys out of sequence. ;-) It's spelled Borzoi.

Thanks Sarah,
They really are quite elegant looking dogs.
Gwen
Yeah you got that right.

...
So says you.

i really have to wonder what someone with such little respect for other's knowledge and experience of dogs is doing participating in a dog discussion group.
HEY HAND!

oh, don't you worry your pretty little head. i'm having a lovely day.

You can dish it out but you can't take it,huh?
Paulette~
How come you're here?

because, unlike you, i don't know everything there is to know about dogs.
interesting that you didn't address the point. why *do* you hang around with a bunch of people whose experience and knowledge you have you have absolutely no respect for? i'm truly boggled.
