Yeah : (
Too many dogs, not enough resources to go around.

I know.
They are among the largest and most successful >rescues on the East coast, and part of that is probably because they are being so strict about who they take in.

I understand and know sometimes you have to do such but that is why being too bureaucratic is not a good thing.
That said, can you get a write up in the paper, and do the adoptionyourselves?

Our rescue will most likely post them on our site somewhere, but I have no idea how much more effort ... GSD rescue will have a much harder time placing a Lab or a Lab mix than an all breed rescue.

Isn't there a good rescue for MUTTS and PB's down there?

Do you have pictures?
Now you are in Washington,D.C. right?
If the GS X looks a lot like a lab, I just might be able to wangle a good home for them. : )

I'm not as familiar with Borzios as I haven't been around them as much. They are a very pretty dog though, and from what I have heard, they have a nice temperment.
Here is a link for a Bosio Rescue group if anyone is interested:

Unfortunantly, we just lost one of our dogs to cancer so we'll be getting a new one soon, but I'm sure it will be a greyhound. We like the breed and we have become very close friends with the people who run one of the rescue groups.

BTW, how was your dog show this weekend, Gwen? If you posted it elsewhere, I apologize, I didn't see it. It is fun to go to dog shows and see all the different breeds. I was at one a few years ago and fell in love with Scottish Deerhounds. Would absolutely love to get one of those.
Oh I am sorry.

Am elderly neighbour of mine was a biggie in the SD world.

Still trying to get the trophies and paper ephemera.

They are beautiful and so sweet.

Paul I am so sorry to read of your loss. You have me deepest sympathy.

No I haven't posted it. I started to but have been a bit busy today. Besides talking back and forth with his breeder.
Well it went OK for the first time.
Reznor took First Place both days but he was the only puppy in his age group. Which means he had to go on and play with the adult dogs as well as the big time Agents and handlers. So with that in mind he got no points.Emotion: sad(( But all in all it was FUN, I learned a lot. Got a bit over my stage fright yesterday. We had fun. Many breeders were asking
about him. Asked if he was a Mickey son. No
but he is related to Micky. (Woodhenge lines)

I didn't see any of those. I didn't get out much on Saturday. I was too nervous and wanting to get Reznor ready so I didn't wonder around to many rings. Next time I will.
I just need to decide when that will be.
Thanks Paul for asking and remembering my big event.Emotion: smile)

I love Deerhounds! But they have mega health problems and live to 5-7 years. I went to a Silken Windhound show yesterday - pretty cool dogs, if a bit shy. Easy, easy keepers. Think smallish Borzoi/coated Whippets. www.silkenwindhounds.org

And if the ones in my neighborhood are typical, they have a very weird, pushy, buttheaded personality that is not very sighthound-like.

I also think these are really neat dogs. But what an unfortunate name.

Oh I am sorry.

Thank you, Paulette. Martha was almost 12 which is starting to get up there for a greyhound. We had her a little over 7 years so we feel she had a good life with us. We miss her though.
so we'll be getting a new one soon, but I'm sure it will be a greyhound.

Where are you, Paul?

I am in Cincinnati. Believe it or not, we'll be driving down to Florida to get the new dog. We lived down there for a few years and were very active in the rescue group down there. That is where Martha came from and it just seems right. Plus, it gives us a chance to spend a day or two with our friends from the rescue group.
I believe you are in Mass.? I have heard that there is a very good greyhound rescue organization up there. I think there are like 7 tracks in Mass, so they need a good rescue organization. There are some organizations near here and I believe they mostly get their dogs from the West Virginia tracks.

Doesn't have to be so. Here's the memorial page for a Deerhound who passed at 12; it includes a clip of her doing zoomies at age 10.

They've got gorgeous Deerhounds. I don't know much about them, except they are/have been very active in holistic/raw feeding for many years now. Gorgeous dogs...I need to see if I can find the Valeska Borzoi weblink...more beautiful sighthounds. http://personal.palouse.net/valeska/#top
