Congratulations! Don't forget we need peectures!

I don't have anything like a real website yet, but here: These were both taken in North Carolina. He's bigger than that now![/nq]
Well, he's not only really cute, he also looks a lot like my Queenie, but with shorter fur. Here's her Dogster page:

And let me tell you now, if he's anything like her, you are in for a wild ride and crazy fun times!

I'm a sucker for those Flying Nun ears.
Congratulations on the new pup.

Not actually following myself up, but wanted to keep this in the same thread David is thinking about changing Buddy's name ... Virgil?? I keep thinking of Vera Carp's son in the Greater Tuna trilogy. I may have to point this out.

i dunno about how Southern it is i'm not a Southerner but it makes me think of the Aeneid.

oh my. those ears! he's darling! and, judging from those pictures, i think Virgil will be a wonderful name for him. he's clearly not your average Lab, so he shouldn't have your average Lab name, IMO.

I've found that regional names don't necessarily translate that well. I named Emmett Emmett because back home (Virginia) that's a sitting-around-the-porch name. The reaction of people around here, however, has been that it's a "snooty" name (which I guess works, too, since he has a long snoot). I chose Duncan because he was such a pleasant, courteous fellow who loved being outside and Duncan's a name you hear fairly often in Canada (eastern, anyway), but then later I realized that maybe that might not be a great match to the place where Duncan really is a common name.

A snooty name! That's funny. Just say "hey, I am NOT a snoot!"

This is the dialogue I have with nearly everyone when they first meet Queenie:
Them: What's her name?
Me: Queenie
T: Weenie??
Me: QUeenie (emphasis on the K sound)
T: (looking sympathetic) Oh, did she come with that name?

My rescue girl came with the name "Sassy." (shudder) Dreadful as well as completely inaccurate.
We've changed it to Sally. We figured something close would be easier.

Friday came to me as a rescue with the unfortunate name "Jade." FWIW, he's a male.

I thought through a bunch of Jade sound-alikes and couldn't come up with anything I liked. It only took a day or so for him to figure out his new competely different name. A month later, he never even glanced at me when I experimented with his old name.

Matt. Rocky's a Dog.

Well, this raises an interesting question: are people who name their dogs stupidly more likely to give them up??? FWIW, if my parents had named me Sassy, I would have needed rescuing too. (Jade would be ok, but then I am a gurrl).
