We have rescued a yard dog from a farm and she is mostly well behaved and obedient. We now keep her in the kitchen at night and she will jump up on to the kitchen work surfaces. Any ideas on how we can stop this. A friend suggested sprinkling pepper on the surface to disuade her.

regards
Sound cruel I know.
They do say set a trap.
Nothing that will hurt the dog just something that will make a noise. Like tins as in light in weight metal trays.
If the dog knocks them down it will make a noise.
Hence scare the dog enough that it will stop doing it. Or so they hope.
Hope this helps.
Pat.

for cats, i've used crinkled up foil sheets. you crumple them into a ball, then straighten them back out, then lay them on the counter. the sensation of walking on them is very unpleasant.
i assume it would work with dogs too.
