Kira ran in her first agility trial today. I entered her in two Touch N Go and two Weavers runs.
Before her first run I walked her, and walked her, and walked her some more. She was picking up on the excitement of it all, and walking helped. Heh. A little, tiny bit. When we entered the ring for her first run of the day, she was wild-eyed, quivering, and foaming at the mouth. Literally foaming at the mouth. She had a hard time buckling down and holding her contacts, but she hit all the ups, and tried hard to work with me. A wild ride.
Her second Touch N Go run was much better. Broke the start line, I put her back and she held it the second time. Pretty nice run for a baby dog's first trial.
Her first run of Weavers went well. :-) It went really well. She won her class, earning her firstest ever Q. I took her outside and we walked a bit, then went back to my van for some lunch. She likes Basil Chicken Salad a lot. When I went back into the arena, there was a cluster of people around the placement sheets. I was pretty tickled when I saw she won her class, then someone said "Look at the rest of the class, your shepherd had the fastest time of all the dogs!" Yep, she was the fastest Novice dog. And she was faster than the Open dogs. And faster than the Elite dogs. All heights. Not bad for a GSD in a sea of Border Collies. ;-)
I screwed up her second Weavers run, facing the wrong tunnel. Bad handler.
The End.

Not bad at all. As I've said before, it's all about beating the Border Collies.
Tomorrow is day 2 of our regionals qualifier for the Nationals, so it's time for bed.

Matt. Rocky's a Dog.

hehehe...I do that as well. I told you that I took a bicycle to the Nationals,
didn't I? So that I could make sure that I could take some of Bodhi's "edge" of prior to the sheep trial and the obedience trial? ;-)

We managed a passing Rally run-through yesterday, what fun! Of course, then he blew 2 of his sits heeling on the Novice Obed. one we did (Sanctioned Match in Hillsboro).

Woohoo! Yay Kira! Bodhi sends ginormous slurps! To both you AND Kira (probably you more than her!).
Now...to rethink that notion you had, "Don't need no stinkin' Border Collies!"

Shelly & The Boys, who all think Kira is THE BOMB!

Woo-hoo! Go Kira!! Yay for non-Border-Collies! ;-D
Yay Bodhi!

We've bonded. :-)

Yanno, I don't know what I'm gonna do. I have days where I think I want a BC, other days I think I want a Malinois. Then I look at Kira and wonder why I want anything other than a GSD.

The supervising judge yesterday told me how much she liked Kira. I told her I was fortunate in that I had a 'checklist' of what I wanted in my GSD, and I got it. She said I have used up all my 'dog luck' on this one dog, and the next few will make up for it. Yikes.

The breeding that produced Kira is being repeated. Tonight. ;-) Trying hard to not think it's some kind of sign.

Thinkin' of widdle baby shepherd pups.

Well, you know my opinion of that. Run the breed you love. Of course, I'm not an instructor either. ;-)

They are pretty darn cute puppies...
I mentioned the GSD pup where John works before. Ole is cute, clumsy still, but cute. I was amazed however, at the difference between him at 5 1/2 mos. and a pair of littermates from a friend's BSD litter born roughly around the same time. Not to say the BSD puppies weren't clumsy, but nowhere near the way Ole was. He has no leg awareness at all. While playing with Bodhi, he kept trying to run crab-like (sideways,
in front of Bodhi, trying to entice him to chase/play). He also kept tumbling over himself.
I think of widdle baby shepherd pups too...but of the Belgian variety myself.
But, I know there's too much going on/to do with Bodhi before I can bring another one home.
(See, that's my story & I'm stickin' to it!)

I am. I love the ASTs. I love my GSD. I love {much as I hate to admit it!} my ugly little brown dog. Actually, I think my little brown dog is cute. ;-)

Huh? I don't understand?

Huh? I don't understand?

Well, here are two examples:

1) Nothing I do/don't do with Bodhi in agility will really ever have anyeffect on how I earn money.
2) Whie it is good to have a lot of experience training/running other typesof dogs for instructors (I think that is a VERY GOOD THING, in no matter what venue), it doesn't matter for me.
