I have a 10 month old maltese who I have had some problems house training her. I moved a couple times within the first 2 months I owned her but for the last 6 months we have been at the same place. I have always tried to get her to use pee pads since I live in an apartment in a city. She is usually good about peeing on her pads but she rarely poops on them. When she does go over to start to poop on her pads she walks and ends up several feet from the pads.

Lately she has taken to peeing on my bed right before we go to bed. Last night while we were sleeping she peed at the foot of the bed where we were not sleeping. My boyfriend thinks that she does this to get attention. I don't know what to do to solve the problem. Any help would be appreciated. Candace
Candice,Contrary to popular belief, puppys (or adult dogs for that matter) dont ask for attention by going potty or bitting or using anyother kind of behavior that we think is "bad" unless we have made it rutine to reward them after this behavior is exemplified. I'm sure you already know this but your little one probably does not associate her peeing on your bed with you praising her if she has already been trianed to go on a pad (i may be wrong though). She may be pooping away from her pad becuase she is not given an alternative to where she is peeing.

You might want to try laying newspaper down next to the pee pad or even several feet away from it. When you see her begin to sniff around to go poopoo put her on the newspaper and wait. Try to give her enough roaming area on the paper and when she goes poopoo on the newspaper praise her like hell. This gives her an alternative to pooping on your floor and pooping in a place she associates with tinkling. It worked for my little shitzu Wonton who is also 10 months.

Sounds stupid but hope it helps.=20 La=DCrEn
