: If someone else has already corrected this, sorry. But Valium is either a : sedative or a tranquilizer, can't ... doses they are mild sedatives, at medium doses have an anti-anxiety effect, and at high doses they knock you out.

FWIW, my old doctor (now retired) told me it was originally developed as a muscle relaxant. (It certainly did wonders for the back spasms I was having at the time. :-))

Kavik's holistic vet told me there was no scientific evidence more homeopathic remedies worked with the exception of acupuncture.

Correct me please, but I thought that acupuncture, TCM, et al, belonged to a general family of treatments categorised as "holistic" - homeopathy is only one of them.

That is my understanding as well.
My definition of homeopathy involves treatment of afflictions with tinctures of highly diluted toxins or, at least, the "mirrors" of toxic molecules.

Again, that's also my understanding.

I have another analogy of how it worked on me. Anybody ever had gas in the dentist's chair?

I first read that as gas as in farting.

I won't go to the dentist for most procedures without getting laughing gas. Though I admit there are times I don't like the way that stuff makes me feel. In fact there have been times I felt very anxious/frightened on it. Strangely.

That is strange. It's supposed to dispel anxiety. Does for me. And I won't even have a cleaning without it. :}

Well I have epilepsy and there have been times in which it made me feel as though I might have a seizure or I was going to die. I don't know why. If it is turned up too high it does this. If it isn't up high it
doesn't seem to do much at all, it sure
does ease anxiety much. I used to wouldn't have
my teeth cleaned without it but I have gotten
a bit better at relaxing in the dentist chair.

FWIW, i did a quick scan of PubMed and could find no studies of valerian use in canines. a Google ... i'm mean, impolite, nit-picking, fault-finding, aggressive, challenging, petty, etc. all she wants, but i don't think i'm being ***** unreasonable.

You're not being unreasonable.
i don't know what you think i've said to her that's so horrible, but if pointing out what i think is questionable advice is frowned upon, there's not much point in participating here.

It's not frowned upon by anyone who matters, shelly. Some people aren't ready to play with the grown-ups.
