Nasty in what way?

lunging aggressively at other dogs and people, biting - usual definition of nastiness when it comes to dogs. I see MOSTLY second-hand Saints, which I'm sure influences what temperaments I see, quite a lot.

I've met mostly nasty ones. Wonder if it's regional.

my current experience with Saints is non-existent, but when i was a kid they were popular. at that time, they suffered from some of the same issues that Cocker Spaniels did, in that they were being mass bred with no regard for temperament. Saints with nasty, hinky temperaments were the norm.

That which does not kill us, makes us stranger.

(But, Mang!, he can have a hard mouth when he wants.)

is he a tugging machine?

Not at all. He likes wrestling with dogs and grabbing throats, but he doesn't hold on to a tug toy with either me or the dogs.

ah! elliott was not at all into tug until i got harriet. he'd ptoui the tuggie as soon as you put any pressure on it. once he saw harriet play tug, he suddenly got The Point.

When a Cabbage Patch baby dies, I think we all feel the pain. Melora (Rasputina)

And St. Bernards??? A dog bred to RESCUE humans??

Oh yeah, those killer St. Bernards going around getting everyone drunk and disorderly!

you laugh, but my ELB was nearly killed by one. the dog tried to eat his head.

Hey, you put an E in front of that LB. He had it coming!

The only Chow Chow I've had to deal with is standoffish but well-mannered.

yep, that's totally proper for a Chow. they're supposed to be aloof (but not aggressive!). they can be a little ... of humor. they're actually quite funny dogs. and, they're deeply affectionate with their people, even though they aren't generally cuddling.

Chows have become "bad *** dawgs" for the bad *** crowd around my area, so you see a lot of badly bred and badly raised bad Chows around. BSL should stand for BreedER specific legislation.

In times past, my Shar Peis struck fear into the hearts of bad guys in the ghetto, where they were known as "chinese pits."

well, he wasn't that evil at the time. certainly not evil enough to warrant the dog trying to harvest his eyeball! (the dog ended up puncturing ELB's eyelid.)
