Apparently she's got them working stock, too.

I'm sorry to see that she's planning this breeding because I was under the impression she'd been talked out of it.

She's a hobby herder, like me. I don't think she works her dogs as often as I do. The Mick breeding was intended to produce sport dogs.

My boys' sire, Intrepid SpacemanSpif, won a lot of races for Lori and her all-collie sled team. That team dominated mushing in her part of Michigan for years, she says. He, like her other collies, was also a working dog, with titles.
I understand that a team of Poodles did well in the Iditarod a few years ago. Does anyone have a pointer to confirmation of this? I'd like to see photos, to tell the truth.

Someone named John Suter ran them. Unfortunately poodles' coats are unsuited for that kind of climate and they had problems with snow sticking to them and their coats freezing to the ground when they napped. The Iditarod committee changed the rules so that only "northern breed dogs" (whatever that is) are allowed to enter.

I know there's a team in the Great Lakes area (?) of Belgians and I think she runs other dogs with them (Huskies, maybe?). Brrr...too cold for me!
But, I do think it would exciting to watch, because it's a breed I love. Shelly & The Boys

There's no reason that other dogs can't pull, although I'd have some qualms about running some dogs over longer distances, obviously. It's common to see retrievers and GSDs being used for skijoring, and one of my all-time favorite skijoring photos is someone behind a Malamute/Corgi team (obviously a novelty team, but it was still really cute).

Nah - if you keep moving, you don't get cold.

The photo seems to have been taken down, but in looking for it I came across this absolutely stunning fellow:

wow! i'm amazed that he's got that level of training, considering he's an outdoor dog. too bad his owners are unwilling to put the same amount of effort into confining him that they've put into training him. he sounds like a peach.
