I have a Shi Tzu - he is 4. I have tried to house train him, but he still pees. I have a brand new house now, and my husband will not allow him to come inside, not even in the winter. He can come in the garage, but we have kids that want to play with him, and hes just a little guy - he belongs inside. BUT- I cannotr have him peeing all over my new house. I have tried a kennel, I have tried rubbing his face in it, nothing works. And he KNOWS he is guilty!!! He runs away after he makes a mess and sees me coming!

And he KNOWS he is guilty!!!

And he's doing it just to spite you.
As an aside, you're lucky he's 4 - he's a little too old to steal since most people like to steal puppies.

tether him to you and never let him out of your sight. if he starts to pee, hurry and get him outside. give him a command to go potty and praise if he does. but mostly, never let him have an accident in the house but keeping your eyes on him 24/7 when he isn't crated (use a small crate so he doesn't go potty in there)

clearly, your neighbor should rescue him from such a neglectful home. HTH!

He runs away after he makes a mess and sees me coming![/nq]What he knows is that you get mad when dogs pee. He doesn't know that you don't want him to pee in the house, just that you don't want him to pee. Since it is not possible to stop peeing, he's doing it anyway and then trying to escape your wrath. Don't rub his face in it. All that teaches him is that you are mean as well as unable to stand the thought of animals having to relieve themselves. Keep him in a dog crate small enough that he can't do much more than lie down in it when you can't be with him.

Whenever you are home, have him tethered to you with a leash wrapped around your waist or hanging off your belt loop or whatever. Do not let him go anywhere that you can't see him. As soon as you see any signs of sniffing for a spot or squatting or leg lifting, pick him up and take him outside to where you want him to pee. Tell him to go potty or whatever phrase you want to use and praise him when he goes. Keep him on leash because if you have been punishing him for peeing, he will probably want to sneak off and pee without you.

But if he does, you can't praise him for going on command in the area you want him to go and teach him that it is the inside part you don't like, not the peeing part. Whenever you take him out of the crate, take him outside on leash and tell him to go and praise him when he does. You can also take his favorite treats out with you and give him a great treat when he goes where he is supposed to. If you get sick of babysitting him, have your kids do turns.

Just make sure he is never left alone to have accidents while you train him so he is absolutely clear on what you want from him.

Female is starting to do that eery morning but even if she was young lke yours & doing the same thing your dog's doing I would take her to our vets o find out why it's happening.Defenitely it wouldn't be outside all the time even if we had nice warm weather all the time. Which we don't but if we did we stillhave to worry about fleas & anything else that comes along.

Have you thought about finding he another home with someone wo wouldn't mind her making accidents? Is she fixed? Hate to see her get pregnant by some dog. Why don't you see if someone would be willing to give her a good home? Seriously? Make sure you let them know why you can't keep her. I understand your kids wanting to play with the dog but a dog that small shouldn't be left outside 24/7. No do should
