I recently rescued 3 parakeets from our local animal shelter and while I am very happy to add these little guys to our family, we're having a problem.

We have a 9 month old kitten that we found in our backyard a few months back and he keeps pouncing at the birds. While I don't regret my decision on bringing them all into the house, it's rather frustrating and sad that I need to chase the kitten every few seconds because he can't keep away from them. The cage is very big and spacious so having to move it back and forth between rooms is tedious, I hate having either of my pets locked in a room. Does anyone know of a way we can teach my cat that these birds aren't prey or a toy?
