Earlier, I had posted the link to ELB's new dog
(http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?action=2&pet=3414189). SIL just sent me her list of names for the unfortunate dog, and OY! I let her know that I'll put it to a vote here and let her know. Also told her that she might want to hold off on it, and get to know the dog's personality before deciding. Anyway, if the dog ends up with a name from the list, it's all YOUR fault.
GATSBY Emotion: smile (She was thinking about naming their first male offspring that. If you're thinking that's bad, and likely to get the kid beat up, her second choice is Wolfgang.)
Lestat
Lancelot
Morrissy
Mustang
Dakota
Desoto
Professor
Draco
Dracul
Samurai
Thoreau
Walden.

I think he looks like a Lance or Morry. However, Dakota and Desoto are excellent calling names: Dakootaa, Desootoo.

Yeah!! A chance to screw up...err... help another family!!

Poor child. If the unfortunate one ever does get named that, convince ELB and SIL to at least enroll the kid in hockey, so that when he does get picked on, he will know how to jersey the guy and beat the snot out of him. (Yes, it is a stereotype, and yes I know it. I *am* Canadian, to thppbbtt!!)
Lestat

Nope, too dark. I would see Lestat as a good name for a dog that is a greyish/color.
Lancelot

Maybe
Dakota

1st choice.
Suja

2nd choice.

They should definitely name the dog Gatsby so no child will have to suffer with it.

Oh god.
Lancelot

Absolutely not. For many reasons, the least of which is he'll become many variations of 'X-a-lot.' Shitalot, Runalot, Barkalot, Eatalot.
Morrissy

My first choice from this list.
Desoto

My second choice.
Professor

Which would immediately lead me to ask if their Boston was named Mary Ann.
Dracul

They'll be forever explaining this one, repeating it for other people, and will eventually change it completely to Dracula.

True. Imagine howling Profehhhssor!
This reminds me of a dumb dog name I heard being called all the time in my childhood neighborhood: Oscillator. Black lab. No idea why.

I guess I am weird because I sort of like Gatsby for a kid. Not a dog necessarily though. And Wolfgang, not. Then again I do know a Wolfgang that is research geological scientist here at UT.
Lestat

I love Lestat, but then I also love Ann Rice
and the character, Lestat that she created in her
vampire books. There was a Belgian Malinois
in the Schutzhund Nationals several years ago
that got 1st place that was named Lestat.

I like several of the names. Dakota is nice, but too common.

Actually, I think Gatsby is very cute. Not for a hoomin, but for a dog. And I like Walden and Lancelot also.

The last one. "Suja" is an adequate name.

Matt. Rocky's a Dog.
Since pet names invariably get shortened (or lengthened) to something with two sylables and " o" or "e" at the end for yelling convenience (or for baby talk), my vote is for Draco, which is already there. Personally, none of these names give me any warm fuzzies and say waay too much about your SIL. What ever happened to giving the poor beast a dignified name like Portnoy or Ebeneezer, or even just plain Jones?
Sunflower, who really shouldn't comment on pet names, having or had pets named Sambar, Onslow, Cosmo, Biscotti, Layla, Q, Emo, Polar, Tazio, Audi, Tuco, Gandalf (25 years ago) Indio, Watson, Magenta, Chekov, Dammit, Friday, and Dr. Pepper. And I name my automobiles as well. I'm sure that's just as revealing about me.
