No big surprise, the "record" retic announced recently has miraculously shrunk when under the influence of a tape measure:

"Stay still, will you?
Last week the reptile world was rocked by the news that a 14-metre python had been discovered in Indonesia. Could a snake really be so long? There was only one way to find out - we sent John Aglionby along with a tape measure.
"Look, you must understand that a python's length is not constant," explains Darmanto, the owner and handler of Fragrant Flower. Fragrant Flower is the reticulated python found living in a tourism park in central Java which was last week touted as the longest and heaviest snake ever captured - 14.85m and 447kg. "Depending on the weather, on how recently he has eaten and when he last shed his skin, Fragrant can stretch and contract a great deal. A few days ago he stretched himself out halfway round the cage."

Right snakes get longer when they eat. They can double their length. sounds about right to me. ; )

Actually, have you seen the giant earthworms of australia ??? Very freaky.. If memory serves me, they grow to 4-5' in length, and about 4 inches wide. I think they're only found in one small area of a few hundred acres and nowhere else. Saw it on Nigels wild wild world. Very weird stuff.

The SciFi channel made a Tremors TV series, it was cancelled after about 13 episodes. They promoted it fiercely ensuring that it got a 2.0 Neilsen rating (excellent for their channel), but the quality of the show also ensured that ratings fell to 0.7 after 3 episodes. The ratings rose again when Christopher Lloyd guest-starred but fell again
