It's not April 1st, this really did happen Woke up this morning, could hear a funny scraping noise in the family room. Tossed a robe on, and went in, could hear the noise was coming from the fire place. Has glass doors, and when I looked a bird, looked like a Starling, had gone down the chimney and was trying to get out. Opened the doors a little, was going to try to gently grab him, take him outside, CLOUDS of dust as he flapped around in there trying to get away from me. Then I thought, well better get a towel.

Just then it found the small opening in the doors, flew out and right into my robe which was hanging open. The robe was all I had on, so I gently held him against me with the robe, ran out the back door and released him, then ran back into the house to turn on my police radio, hoping I would not hear that one of my neighbors had seen me and assumed I was trying to "flash" them from my back porch. Well the boys in blue were not called, so hopefully the bird will hit one of the baths outside, and I closed the damper on the chimney.

LOL.
I hope the damper on the chimney is not the only thing you closed. Emotion: smile

Is this your way of explaining to us why we'll be seeing you on an upcoming episode of COPS?
Oh, I believe you, Alex. Uh huh... really I do!

PS - I'm not laughing. Really! I'm not! (yeah, right. Bird in the fireplace... heh-heh)
Seriously, I saw an episode of COPS filmed in I think Arizona? New Mexico? Anyway, they were called to a house one night where literally dozens of birds were coming into the house via the chimney. The birds acted dazed or something because the people could walk right up to them and pick them up. As soon as they'd release them outside the birds all went directly back to the chimney and the cycle repeated.
No idea what kind of birds they were, but they were small and light colored.
Those poor people had birds in every room in their house!

Uh, huh. Suure, *we* beleive you.Actually that reminds me of a raptor rehabber I once knew. She had a barred owl that was an unreleasable imprint. One day in the middle of winter (I think she lived in Colorado) his tether became untied and he got loose outside with leash and swivel still attached to his jesses. She searched for him for three days and couldn't find him. The weather was very cold (-20*F) and with the leash attached to his jesses the likelihood that he could get tangled and asphyxiate was high.

As you can imagine she was quite upset. On the morning of the fourth day while she was in the shower she saw an owl with a leash land in a tree about a quarter mile away. She ran outside in -20*F weather, stark naked, and soaking wet; climbed the tree, and carried the owl back to her house. She collapsed on the kitchen floor with hypothermia. Fortunately one of her neighbors saw her run outside and called for an ambulance. Now she's known as the crazy bird-lady.

Damn, now I don't feel "strange" at all
I did make sure I got dressed right away, if the boys in blue showed I did not want to answer the door in my robe .
I did see that episode on cops mamabird. That was strange watching that. As fast as they would get the birds outside they would come right back in. I had forgotten that picture Dave mentioned, but now that I remember I guess I'm glad he was caught up by my arms, not lower in the robe.
