i've recently had four different people tell me they decided to get a Boxer after meeting harriet.(1) when i try to give them a realistic picture of what it's like to actually live* with her, the general response has been "but *you have a Boxer."

Offer to let them keep her for a few days. With detailed instructions. That puts off people that think GSDs are a breeze after meeting Trip. (Who is a breeze after five years of training, daily walks and regular training sessions.)

i've always liked "a murder of crows," but i don't see it on that list.

It's there. It was the first I looked for as a measure of the list's accuracy.

That, and a "mob of kangaroos".
Have you ever heard of a "flick of cows"? A friend came across that in a trivia game and asked me about it. I hadn't heard it before. Shelly & The Boys

Basenjis definitely come in mobs. Or riots.

This is actually a really good idea - for those situations where you can make it work.
I LOVE labs. We used to babysit a friend's lab every summer for a week or two. Lived on a farm with three ponds and had a big old farmhouse that was dog-friendly.
By the time they would pick her up at the end of their trip, I was always ready to give her back. She was very well behaved but between the hair and the constant wet-dog and mud, I would lose my desire for a lab of my own.

Until the next year.

This would work, except there are VERY few people I would actually allow this with! I barely trust my husband alone with them for an extended period of time w/o explicit instructions!!
He is fine with Coda, but Bodhi would drive him nuts. Coda can get by with just a bunch of physical exercise but not Bodhi. To his credit however, he did a great job (as far as I know!) with Coda while Bodhi & I were away at the National for a week.

ha! that's a great idea. if i lived closer, i might actually consider it. she's back in Muncie though and there's no way on earth i'm leaving my baby girl with a clueless idjit that far away from me.

exactly. you should've seen what i put my brother through the first time i let him watch elliott. my family and my best friend and her fiance are the only ones i trust enough to leave my dogs with.

that's similar to the situation i'm dealing with. i can leave elliott with certain people, but i just cannot leave harriet.

I used to trust my best friend, but she now has two very small children and a house with no fencing in the city. However, two other good friends have plenty of fenced area, and kennel runs even, if needed. Plus they have BSDs themselves, so they know the behavior. And our agility instructor. She does some boarding, and their brains and bodies get a workout over there. And, they luurve her, it's like doggie camp.

Aww. It's either 'Auntie Deb's River Camp', or 'Auntie Deb's Boot Camp for Wayward Terriers', depending on the camper. ;-)
