I have an intense phobia of snakes, but I don't have anything against snakes, and am really working on educating myself about them in order to get over my fear. I've been reading a lot of the posts in this group, and I really am enjoying the knowledge I've been getting. I know that some of the posters have mentioned having a snake phobia in the past but they were able to overcome it, I would love to hear how you managed to do so. Also, if anyone knows of any good picture free sites about snakes that would be greatly appreciated.

When I first started out, I was scared to death of snakes. Figured every single one of them were "poisonous." Once I got my first zookeeping job, I was forced to pretend that I loved the snakes and knew everything about them for the public. After a few days, I realized they were awesome. Then I had to feed them. I had to "thump" over 100 mice for feedings. Watching snakes eat is my favorite part of the day and my favorite part about keeping them as pets.

Of course, I learned quickly that only a small portion are actually venomous. My second job was in charge of the herp dept in a small zoo and I'm hooked. My dream job would be nothing but hots all day long. Basically, if I was to keep my job way back when, and get paid for it, I had to learn to work with the herps and fell in love!
