I'm not advocating the death of any dog - ... that pit bulls who live here now would be euthanized.

what about the dogs in the shelters now? they will either be euthed or sold to research labs for $6 each.

(I'm on my back with my belly exposed, please stop yelling at me and gimme a skritch!)
I've been reading up on BSL in it's various incarnations for the past two hours. I'm at the point where I feel like I want to do something but I don't know what. As well I'm tempted to call the local SPCA and ask them what's happening with them since all this *** hit the fan.
I wish I was rich and lived on a huge farm.

The average person thinks pit bulls are scarier looking than eskies.

LF, here's a picture of one of those really "scary" pitbulls. [/nq]
Awww...bullseye!
His name is Petey. Scary, huh? The "average person" thinks there are little green men from Mars among us, too. What we really need is legislation to ban "average people." Emotion: smile

LOL! I agree with that so long as it excludes 'weird people' with 'typical' notions, I think that would leave me safely exempted. Emotion: smile

I predict dobermans will be the next breed of choice for idiots (and I'll qualify that by saying, obviously, not exclusively) in Ontario.

(Here you are!)
This what happened in Winnepeg (not Dobermans, but other "tough" breeds). Bite statistics didn't decrease, they just moved. I've heard ... bill and admitted that he was wrong. Nova Scotia has since been investigating the Calgary model of dangerous dog legislation.

You are in Calgary, right Matt? I travel there regularly and might end up living there one day because my company's head office is there, one of the reasons I got a small sized dog (never imagined I'd have a small dog!) is because she's fittable as carry on luggage. Emotion: smile
Just as an aside, last time I was there someone I know had an incident with their small dog which caused animal control to show up at her door - here's what happened. Her small dog escaped the yard (where he was confined to the point of neurosis), was running free, and ended up biting a child. The bite was minor but it did break the skin. She had the dog put down and animal control did not fine her or do much of anything, they agreed with her decision to euthanize the dog and I think that may be why they decided not to proceed with fines or charges.
I'll wave at all cars with dogs in them on the Deerfoot next time I'm in town, you see crazy long haired woman with eskie waving, you'll know it's me.

'and here's to Tim Hortons, gift from the coffee gods'
yes, or pit bull mixes, how much pit bull is ... tell a boxer/lab cross apart from apitbull. I'd hope so.

really? try this site: http://members.aol.com/radogz/find.html tell us how well you do.

What do I win? I couldn't name each dog breed, but I knew they weren't pitbulls Emotion: smile Of course, I'm the boxer owner that got *** when people called my boxer a pit. Stupid people. (I love pitbulls, but I had a boxer dammit!).

here's another one: http://www.mnp13.com/FindThePitBull/FindThePitBull.aspx

That one was a bit tougher, but I have to comment on what a great (and cute) Boxer that is!!!

I've had the people at my local shelter confuse Australian Shepherds with Australian Cattle Dogs, and I'm not talking about mixes.

Maybe they were both from the same country? Gee, I'm trying to explain, but I just can't get it done. I'm just amazed every time someone actually sees the Queensland (heeler) in Jack...gets me every time.
My ACD was called a pitbull by more than one person.

You're joking, right?
(Someone else thought he was a red racoon, and another one wanted to know how I got a fox to walk on a leash like that, so maybe I just live in a really ignorant area of the world...)

Ok, this is silly, but a raccoon? Please say they were asking about a color pattern or something?! And a fox? What exactly *do* you have? LMAO

I was shocked to read that Sibes were one of the breeds targeted by BSL. It goes so far as to target "any dog that weighs more that 100 lbs"regardless of breed.

There goes the Newfies and the Saints and all the other big lugs. Sad, isn't it? Funny how generalizations and stereotypes screw up, huh?
From living in a northern community (Yellowknife) where, during thewinter, huskies are regularly used to get from point A to B, it's a breed I knowquite well.

Gee, next thing they will do is not allow snow mobiles, 4-wheelers and snow shoes..then where will you be? My guess would be sitting in front of the fire singing Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, while wishing you could go to that point B to buy some Chestnuts.
The crow is roasting on the spit as we speak.

Hope you plucked it first, burning feathers cause a real bad stench.

I love the shot where he's knocked the >bar off in mid leap.

Thanks, so do I. Not everyone gets why I bought it and put it up.
