Ontario had public hearings. Almost every public dog service group spoke out against the proposed BSL, but the government's mind ... bill and admitted that he was wrong. Nova Scotia has since been investigating the Calgary model of dangerous dog legislation.

I found this: http://www.calgary.ca/DocGallery/BU/cityclerks/23m89.pdf

Some of the restrictions do appear to be very, err .. , restrictive. Some of the penalties do appear to be significant.

(Can you explain why any municipality should allow any vicious dogs to remain licensed?)
However, the provincial leglislation seems pretty wimpy. http://www.qp.gov.ab.ca/documents/acts/d03.cfm
DANGEROUS DOGS ACT
Chapter D-3
Complaint as to dangerous dog
2(1) A justice may take cognizance of a complaint that a dog is dangerous and not kept under proper control and if it appears to the justice that the dog is dangerous, the justice may make an order in a summary way directing the dog to be kept by the owner in a proper way or to be destroyed.
(2) A person who fails to comply with an order under this section is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of not more than $5 for each day during which the person fails to comply with the order. RSA 1980 cD-3 s2
Ouch. $5. Canadian.

She doesn't really bear any resemblance to any other breed. She doesn't really look like your average show Sibe, either. But when our 3 are out in the yard, nobody asks what breed that female is or anything like that.

She looks 100% Sibe, as far as I can see from that picture. Maybe people think Elkhound because of her coat color? I don't know. That color is actually not all that uncommon among working dogs, and is actually pretty common among dogs in the Northhomes line (Al and Ann Stead, up near Duluth - unfortunately they don't have a website).

People seem to forget that Siberians have been bred for this work for generations. I heard about some people breeding Sibes to Greyhounds, if you can believe it.

I think there are a couple of dogs running the Iditarod this year that have Saluki blood in them.
Yeah, that kind of destroys one's credibility. So does advocating breeding dogs to wolves, IMO.

It's pretty clear that he's a lifestyle guy, not a dog guy.

That makes a lot more sense than Greyhounds. Salikis have speed, especially compared to the average dog, but also endurance. That coat isn't going to do much more good than a Greyhound's, though. Wonder if anyone's considered Borzoi blood, or perhaps the result would be too large a dog. Sighthounds definitely don't have the efficient metabolism Sibes have.

Or something.

Can you point me to pictures which show the difference?

That's a tough one, but I will work on it. Without pictures, I can tell you that AKC dogs are ... that a friend who shows in breed says would have done well but he's too well-muscled for AKC, IME.

Thanks for that. I love the Greys I meet and I've noticed a huge variation in height more than anything else. When I get out of the game of agility, a Greyhound is likely.
