Where can I see pictures of Tasha?

Thanks! I did look.
Tasha has nada Elkhound, except for the body colour of an older Elkhound.

Impressive, but as a ratio of ear to body size - I win!

: No reason at all to give you a slap; most non-Greyhound people don't : know that there are AKC ... racing, coursing, hunting, or whatever with their dogs. I recall being somewhat confused and maybe even a little bit flabbergasted.

It's pretty flabbergasting. While it's true that NGA dogs aren't bred for what Greyhound originally did - - they're sprinters now, and few would be able to handle a long day of hare coursing - - they are bred for performance. The funny thing is that there is NGA blood in at least some AKC lines. There was a big brouhaha a while back about closing the AKC studbooks to NGA dogs. I think the decision was to postpone a decision, but there may have been action taken since then. I know of a few breeders who do field coursing and a couple who do live coursing with their dogs, but they're in the minority.
I've seen a similar argument about working Border Collies, which are supposedly bred exclusively as "trials dogs" never mind ... original dogs since they are supposedly bred to look just like Old Hemp. Man, I wish I'd saved that email.

Who's Old Hemp?

he sure is cute. those eyes and ears, though (now that i've seen a front view), really resemble something Bostonish.

I took him to a Kathy Keats seminar last weekend. A number of people described him as "Just plain ugly, except for the ears." Do you think I should pass those comments on to the owners?

Yeah, but in total ear length, Viva wins!

Yes! I think he's cute, cute, cute! Who could resist that face??
She doesn't really bear any resemblance to any other breed. ... asks what breed that female is or anything like that.

She looks 100% Sibe, as far as I can see from that picture. Maybe people think Elkhound because of her coat color?

I think that's probably the reason.
I don't know. That color is actually not all that uncommon among working dogs, and is actually pretty common among dogs in the Northhomes line (Al and Ann Stead, up near Duluth - unfortunately they don't have a website).

I doubt that JQP has seen many dogs from working lines, though. You don't see many show dogs Tasha's color, and even the BYB-bred Sibes that end up in shelters in large numbers look more like show dogs.

Those are also very impressive ears. I see she's got a pretty short coat too. I was just thinking about the differences in coat type, which may be another reason some people didn't think Tasha was a Siberian; her coat isn't short, but it's not stand-up fluffy. It's silkier than most Sibes and lays flat. Her tail usually curls up, too.

those people obviously have no taste. Friday is *so* notnotnot ugly. he's one of the cutest Jacks i've (virtually) seen.

i expect that anyone who owned a dog like him would have a pretty well grounded sense of humor, so why not?
