Hello,
I've had dogs for many years but now I got one that is prejudiced and I don't know what to do about it. Linda is a Boxer mix. She'll always bark at... black people whenever she sees one! It doesn't matter if it's a man or a woman. As soon as she sees someone with dark skin, she'll burst out. Is it a phobia, obsession or what? She's a rescue dog and I've asked the shelter people whether she had any circumstances that determined her behavior like this but they said there wasn't anything to do with black people in her past, at least nothing they were aware of. Guys please, tell me what you'd do in this situation. I get odd looks from the people she's barking at and I don't want my dog to look racist!

My dog does that too, and it's nothing to do with anything that happened in the past as far as I know It's just something her does. He will not bark at them on the street but will if they pass by the house. I don't believe they know that he does it only to them so I don't feel as bad. I don't know what the deal is but I've heard of other dogs doing that before, and from what I've heard is they tend to do that if you for example live in an area where most people are white, the dog will feel that person is different and will seem odd to him which can cause him to bark. It may just be a matter of socializing her. Is she aggressive at all? if not, next time you find yourself in that situation, maybe ask the person to come say hi, if you know someone who is black ask him to come meet her. If it is something from her past or just something that she finds odd for any reason socializing her with them could help her gain trust.
