Well, we have a bunch of dogs, so here's the short story on their names:

Bear is a fluffy aussie shepherd with a long line of "Bear" named relatives, but in hindsight I wish I wouldn't have chosen this name, way too common.
Dingo is an ACD who looks remarkably like a Dingo.

Crash is a catahoula who was so clumsy as a pup, he literally crashed into every piece of furniture in the house!
Spike is a tough guy ACD, and we are big Tom n Jerry Fans..Spike was the bulldog in that cartoon series.
Five was the fifth dog..sounds silly, but hubby had his fav name and I had mine and we could NOT agree. So we were driving by a local road called Five Mile Rd. and just looked at each other - that's it! we said!

Six is the sixth dog, hubby thought that would be funny to have a Five and a Six.
Jack came with the name - I didn't like it at first, but it suits him, we have added the first name, Raccoon Jack for his cool raccon tail.

Blade is the BC pup, named for one of our fav movies, Blade (you know, that Wesley Snipes vampire movie).
So there you have it..we have had so many foster dogs over the last few years and we always deliberate their names so carefully. Then it's a real bummer to us when they get adopted and the new owners change their name!

I hope that your pronunciation is perfect when you're calling for Six in the park.

Yep, gotta enunciate carefully..but it's even more fun when I yell "Six, Six, Six!" and suddenly the dog parkers think my little tri colored BC is the spawn of Satan. ; )

Aren't all BC's mistaken for spawn of Satan at some time or other in their lives? I could swear some of them look like they are saying the devil made them do it every time they use their intelligence for eevil instead of good. Emotion: smile

When I was looking for a staffy, before I even picked her, I knew she'd be butch, loyal and good-looking so Xena from the TV series came to mind. I rescued my other dog, PJ, but I'm told her first owner named her after she crawled onto his pyjamas and went to sleep there. (He was devastated at having to give her up but was moving back to New Zealand and couldn't take her).
If she was a New Zealander she would get more answers and offers that she bargained for in those circumstances
David - who remarks if you haven't heard someone from NZ pronounce 'six' then you wont know the point of my comment
When it was time to get a dog, I researched Golden litters and picked an expensive puppy from a breeding far away that would have to be shipped. My DH, on the other hand, was in favor of getting a dog for $25 down the street at the pound. We "compromised" on the puppy I chose, but only if HE got to name it. So he dubbed her: BeBop a Lu SheBop "SheBop"
from the Cindi Lauper song, and if you don't know what SheBop is a euphanism for, let's just say that it is may deranged hubby's way of calling me "self-indulgent" for spending so much money on the pup.

But I actually loved the name, and so he has also named the other two we've gotten since:
Shamma Lamma Ding Dong "Shammie"
and
Gris-Gris Gumbo Ya Ya "GreeGree"
(GreeGree was born here and had the green ribbon in the litter, hence she was "Green Girl" and that got shortened to GreeGree when she was about 3 weeks old. So for her it was just a matter of finding a song title for a registered name to fit the call name, and fellow New Orleans native, Dr. John had the one.)

and The Golden Girls SheBop, Shammie and GreeGree
Samual Clemens(hope you know that was Mark Twain's real name) because this tiny little golden retiever in my sons lap, "told my son" that's what his name is. NOW he weighs almost 100#s Gracie, toy poodle because she looked like shr would be graceful((NOT!!)) and chloe, because she smelled soo good, but don't all puppies?
