I lost my plated lizard, Tracheloptychus petersi last night. There were no outward signs other than he had been sleeping on top of the substrate lately rather than in it. I had him for over 4 years..

So sorry Kurt.
Is that a long time for a plated lizard to live?

No idea, as I have yet to come across any thing written on this species. I hope he died of old age and not something I did or did not do. When I first got him he would try to run up the sides of the cage with no succsess. Thats why I called him Spaz. After I transferred him to glass tank about a year ago he mellowed out, and even ate more often. The past two weeks or so, he slept on top of the substrate and not in it. Other than that I saw nothing else out of the ordinary. Saturday night I picked him up and flipped him on his back. He did not right himself. I knew he would be dead in within 24 hours. I was right.

Thanks. Maybe he's in heaven with Gloria, but I hope not, cuz she will eat him lol. Thanks again. I am not too sad. I had him a long time he is what I would call a success story. I think 4 years is pretty good, considering I have no idea how old he was when I got him.
