I don't have any houseplants at the moment. In the future I'd like to create an aviary where my birds could fly about and enjoy themselves. What houseplants would be safe for them and which types should I avoid?
Right now I have two budgies but I might like to add cockatiels later on. I doubt that I will ever be interested in the larger parrots, like Grey Africans, but I might want to add parakeets at some point as well.
In regard to house plants, I will probably select ordinary varieties like those you find anywhere. In particular, those that are hardy and easy to take care of.
Are there plants that could be considered safe for any bird, or does this question depend on the species of birds in particular?

Thanks,

Not sure myself. But I just read that all budgies are parakeets, but not all parakeets are budgies. I believe mine is a strictly a parakeet.

Darling budgie!! A budgie is one type of parakeet. There are many different types of parakeets.
In this country we tend to call budgies parakeets, but technically your bird is a budgie.

I LOVE budgies. My first few birds were budgies. They are gentle, cute, friendly, easy to tame. Perfect bird pets. At the moment I have a Galah. She is a lovely thing.
We never call budgies "parakeets" here, and use the term to describe a size and general type of bird.

I've had her for almost five years and have never referred to her as a budgie. Thanks for correcting me. I love this creature. She has the most loving personality and is such a clown. I would be heartbroken if I ever lost her.
budgie is short for Budgerigar. They are native to Australia... although you don't see too many flying around in my area. They like grassy plains etc. Your miss happy feather looks just like a female budgie I had called "tubby".. She was hand raised, and would sleep upside down on you! She slept in a sock for a LONG time after I got her. So gentle, kind and a LOVELY bird.

Oh, and you say it bud ja ree gar or buhdji
As far as I know, budgies and parakeets are not the same, but they are both members of the Parrot family.
Anyhow, back to my question: what house plants are safe for budgies and other birds like cockatiels and parakeets? Safe for them to come in contact with. Perhaps chew on.
