this Saturday, 4/17, Manu and i will be at the Three Dog Bakery in downtown Seattle, from noon to 3, as representatives for the Pit Bull Project. We'll be doing breed education, looking for foster homes, and showing some of the available puppies. Manu will be giving handshakes and sloppy kisses, and i will be handing out treats and all the information you could want on Pit Bulls and related breeds . it would be great if anyone wants to drop by and meet us, and maybe fall for a pit puppy of your own.

you can find more information here: http://www.pitbullproject.org and http://www.threedog.com /.

How convenient! I'll be up there this weekend for a trial, and there's a young, intact pit bull near me that needs a home/foster soon or he'll be put down. Shall I bring him to you? ;-)

Good luck, sounds like Manu will be ready to "greet the public"! :-)

I'll be up there this weekend, but not until Sunday. We'll be having our National Specialty up that way, held mostly at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Tracking on Monday is at Scattercreek Park, Herding at Packleader Farms (backside of the Rocky Creek Conservation area, in Purdy), and the obedience, agility & breed rings all at the fairgrounds. Fun, fun, fun!
Have a good time, and good luck placing pups!

we'll talk after i sign up some more foster homes! :-)

but do feel free to stop in and say hi!

Ah, rats. I'd love to meet Manu, but I'm going to be in a @!#()U@!)(* class (work-related) all day. Be sure to post about the next time you do this.

i can't wait to meet them. :-)
(and yes, the info in the ad is wrong. fighting is NOT legal in NM. i have emailed the person who updates petfinder for us to change it.)

AWW!! Well, I drowned my sorry by wandering up to the nearest Mud Bay Granery, where I encountered a family who less than 2 hours previously had sprung an 18-monthish old Sharpei-Shepherd mix from the Humane Society. What a total sweetie!

So, how did it go? Were the pups as adorable as in the photos?

it went really well! and yes, the pups were even cuter in real life. Shakespeare (the brown and white boy with the red nose) was an absolute doll. he climbed right into my lap and started nibbling on my earlobe right away. when Manu came over to investigate, he licked Manu right on the nose! of course, Manu made him an instant pack mate, and spent the whole day getting between little Shakespeare and any other dogs who walked by. :-) Paris was a cutie too. he's the runt of the litter, but also the alpha puppy. he was very bold and ran up to anyone who looked at him. both of the puppies have been in a great foster home, and were sitting very nicely for pets and treats.
we talked to quite a few people, handed out about 10 adoption applications, and even got a few donations. we had two people who were afraid of pit bulls come up and meet the dogs. one had been attacked as a kid, and she was surprisingly open minded about them, blaming her incident on the owner, not the dogs. the other had never seen a pit bull in real life, and was timid around Manu at first, but when i had him sit and offer her a paw to shake, she smiled and took it. she played with the pups a bit, but wound up coming back to Manu to pet before leaving.
we had lots of pit bull supporters and fans come by and thank us, and every child within a 10 block radius must have come running over to pet the puppies.
we only had one anti pit bull person come by. he knew we were going to be there, and brought a photocopy of a news story of a pit bull attack. he told us what horrid dogs we had and that we should hand out his info too, "to be fair about it". we tried throwing facts at him, but he had already made up his mind about the breed. he finally got bored and left before causing too much trouble. luckily, he was the only nay-sayer we ran into today.
i came this close () to taking Shakespear home with me. just to foster, of course. ;-)
it was a great day. i can't wait to do it again.
