The groomers has one of those pressure carpets that rings a bell when you step on it as you step up to the counter. Tuck, being clicker trained, fully understands that actions can cause noises that are followed by rewards. So when he went to the groomers for the first time, we walked across the mat, and the bell accentuated. He then back up, stepping on the mat again with a hind foot, and he looked at it, and the source of the bell noise.
He put a hind foot down, and looked at it, as he actuated the alarm. He turned around, and put a front paw down, and actuated the alarm. above the door. Repeat. left foot, he looked above the door. Right foot, and he looked above the door. It only took a few tries before he confirmed that he was actually causing the noise above the door. We had to stop him, because it was getting annoying.

So the dog trains himself?

Yes he did. I was surprised that he made the association of the position of his feet and the noise above him so quickly

He's a smart dog. What did you expect?
But did he get rewarded for figuring out the puzzle?

He got a bath and blow dry and a buzz(er)/bell
The bell was annoying, but he seemed to be enjoying the discovery.
Diddy,
I would have enjoyed watching Tuck in action stepping the magic rug that made a bell ring. My dogs probably would have frozen when the buzzer went off like they stepped on something they were not supposed to. Alright Tuck.
Be Free..Judy

I lead him over the rug, so it was obviously not off limits. He's got a lot of self confidence. So he quickly figured out the relationship and started playing with it.
