Well, this morning he seemed to be sending a message "you can't have me just whenever you want to." It's a change in their relationship, and I guess negotiation is necessary.

So now he's playing hard to get, eh? Very clever!

I enjoyed your story of Elliot snatching the sandwich and hiding it in Harriet's crate. Harriet got the last laugh by snatching it out from under him...
Similar stuff used to go on years ago with my 2 older dogs..Lady the
14 yr old BC mix was actually getting in the trash when I was gone, butBuck my rotund 13 yr old Lab looked like the obvious suspect because of his weight, size, and voracious appetite..When I would say who got in the garbage??? They both looked guilty...it was kinda true..I later discovered Lady was not a Lady at all. She did it and Buck would get the leftover papers etc..
THANK YOU for acknowledging Jubal Early's retrieving ability...I see it the same way. He could have sneaked off in the corner and chowed down on the bag of treats..but oh no...after retrieving them from the counter he brought them to me to open and share..What more could you ask for? A retriever that shares with the other dogs..

That's my Harriet. She's a ***, through and through.

It's kind of scary when they get organized. A couple of times, I've caught Harriet and Pandora-cat working together to liberate a stick of butter. No good can come of such collaborative projects.

Absolutely! He was a good boy, for sure.

Of course, she always got blamed, until one day, I actually saw Elliott take a PB&J sandwich off the counter ... Chowy half. Alas, he didn't think it through quite well enough, because Harriet found the sandwich, and promptly ate it.

Whoa! I wonder if he wanted to eat it later, or was trying to get her in trouble?
Either way, those chowy dogs are damnably clever.

Hard to tell, though I suspect it was the former, and that he just didn't think it through well enough. He could be a sneaky brat, but he wasn't vindictive.

Oh yeah! I miss those conniving ways.
