I recently came back to the States after visiting China. Over there, I visited a rather large and professional-looking business selling snake venom medicines and ointments to tourists. I got suckered into buying some massage oil after trying it out.
Anyways I know the Chinese are notorious for selling placebos, and just as notorious for believing their own con games. The lady that sold me the oil milked a snake infront of me (it had a pointy nose like a horn) and she milked the venom into a cup of moonshine. She said it was healthy to drink it. She also said that after milking a snake, it slowly dies, so you can only milk it 3 or so times.

Ok, reality check please. Is what she said a load of crap? I wouldn't be surprised if it was, but I'd be dissapointed since I bought the massage oil and I don't want to use it if the people who sold it to me are depraved con artists. Your supposed to rub the oil on your muscles, then hold your hand down against your muscles for a while until you get this firy/heated/peppery sensation. Is this healthy?

I have not heard of milking venom killing the snake. I supposed it would depend how its done. if you put the snakes head in a juicer then it probably would. it's probably crap. snake venom massage oil. doesn't sound like it would be healthy. drinking venom in moonshine. why not just mainline. why not just let the snake bite you. take advantage of the handy dispenser that venomous snakes comes it. what was the stuff supposed to do. same has rhino horn bear gall or drinking cobra blood to get a woody. it's all crap. a drug made from hila monster venom has been approved for diabetes treatment.

hahahahahaha. now that was funny.

Ugh, no. I have enough trouble with the druggies taking their drugs IV in the bathroom at my work (and spraying blood all over the place while they're at it), I don't need them mainlining vemon. They might drop dead and bodies are so hard to get rid of.

Yeah, a lot of these people drink snake vemon. It doesn't do anything, one way or another. It isn't dangerous, we can drink even the most toxic snake venom just fine. It's venom, not poison, after all! On the other hand, what makes it so safe to drink is also what makes nothing more then an expensive cocktail, venom is made of protiens that are digested just fine in our stomachs.
Note: venom is only safe to drink if you don't have any sores, especially stomach ulcers (yes, I saw that episode of CSI lol), in your digestive tract or mouth.
Milking does not kill the snake, any more then milking a cow kills the cow. I'm not sure why the lady said that. Perhaps her husbandry isn't very good. I'm not sure if vemon would sting on skin contact... doesn't it have to enter the blood stream to have any effect? Bee venom does sting when it contacts thin skin, such as lips (that's why they sell bee venom lip gloss, since it make your lips swell up and look pouty. I guess some people don't mind suffering for their looks!), but I haven't heard that snake vemon does this. At a guess I would say that it might be some of the other ingredients in the oil that make the burning/warming sensation.

Don't swallow venom. If you have any ulcers it could get into your blood stream and cause real trouble, especially if you have no idea what snake it was, although drinking venom probably wouldn't really hurt most people, you never know 100% if your stomach lining is completely ok and it's not worth the risk.
I would also not want to knowingly rub venom on, because I wouldn't want it to get into any cuts or anything like that.
Another important consideration is you don't know how she's treating her snakes. Since she says they're dying, that's a good indication to me to stay away from such inhumane people.

I guess I got jipped. It all makes sense now: Chinese salesmen (in China) are all sharks. Of all the sales pitches I heard while there, I thought this one was the coolest, but no, just another load of crap. sigh
