I don't recall hearing from any posters from Arizona here (could be wrong though) but I know quite a few of you are experienced in field herping ... Chris?
I'm just wondering what snakes and/or lizards are indigenous to this State, particularly around the Phoenix area. At some point this year I'm expecting to make a visit to the pair of 'idiots' that left here today and we talked of going field-herping over there. Justin mentioned rattlers but I'm not sure he even knows himself what we'd be likely to find over there Emotion: wink

Cheers

Most of the really cool herps in the US live in Arizona, as it would happen. The `species accounts' section at www.reptilesofaz.com has a lot of good information, and they've got forums frequented by people who herp there. If I were you, I'd make a side-trip to somewhere near Yuma to find fringe-toed lizards (Uma notata) IMO some of the coolest lizards in North America, but I might be biased. You'd also get to see sand dunes down there, and sand dunes are fun... the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson is also a great place to visit, if you're willing to drive places.

Kerby's site is a good place to start:

As it happens there was a show on Animal Planet tonight that focussed on snakes of Arizona LOL! Loads of rattlers and not much else were featured, so pretty boring by all accounts ... hmm.

They are pretty interesting, but man does their musk STINK! I was speaking from the network's viewpoint rather than the herper's.
