It's been three weeks since we lost Oppie, and we're adjusting.

And then today I go and:
Make a wide circle around the end of the bed in the wee hours, so as not to step on a sleeping dog.
Put my soup bowl down on the floor after dinner for Oppie to lick.

Ask my husband if he wants to "take a W" later this evening (our code for "walk," which inevitably provoked great excitement).

It's going to be a long time until mid-June, until we can start building a new pack.
And I know that all of you have been there too.

Don't believe everything that you think.

Yup. It sucks.
Sending supportive thoughts your way, though, and I know I'm not the only one.

Rejoice in those moments. It would seem strange only if you'd forgotten so quickly.

It's the perfect amount of time.

Have you been seeing him? Out of the corner of your eye, or when you're tired or run down or sick? With Connor and Molly, my BCs, I saw them for months after I lost them.
With Radar, my cat, gods, he was with me for a solid year after his demise. I would see him in all his familiar haunts and at night I could feel his weight on the bed next to me, or sometimes on my chest, with his head tucked under my chin. Any attempt to lay hands on him ended the experience immediately. It was both a comfort and a horror.
And I know that all of you have been there too.

Yes. I've never gone through that, and don't want to.

I'm sure the memories would be more bittersweet, instead of just raw pain, if the house weren't so empty.

I hate that story. We do move forward, but never fully heal.

I think you're doing fine...
