hi. anyone here in south florida aside from me?
http://www.undergroundreptiles.com is the shop where i bought braeden (my diamond-carpet python, pics below) & which i visit weekly for mice. it's also the shop that made froglet actually consider moving across the states. they have more rare snakes & lizards than i ever thought i'd see in one shop - including a cordoned-off corner of the shop dedicated to venomous. every animal is gorgeous & obviously cared for PROPERLY. it's VERY cool.
anyhow, on this week's mouse trip today, i took a gander at the adult carpet pythons (they currently have three) & one was coiled into an absolutely perfect spiral with his nose tucked into the center. it warmed even my frozen, dead heart. i asked around if anyone had a camera or cameraphone or anything, but i (& by extension, rph) was out of luck.

i love that shop.
(those pics i mentioned, as posted in another thread a few days previous:

the fat photo is a fresh mouselump. yum. & yes, i wear a bracelet made of interconnected safety pins because i am punkrock. oddly enough, braeden LOVES the thing & entwines his tail thorugh it whenever possible.)

Awesome! I love Carpets, and plan on getting one or two after I return from New Mexico in June.

Not a bad website. But I've got 2 gripes (well, at least two that are relevant to this ng), one minor, one not so much:
1) selling turtles under 4", no matter what their disclaimer maysay.
2) baby Iguanas $10 plus shipping minimum order of 2!!

I could also do without all the Jesus talk, but that's just a personal preference.

If so, they're afraid to admit it after reading your archived posts via groups.google.com.

Seriously, if it weren't for the disgustingly hot heat and utter lack of Northwesterly-ness, I'd consider Florida. I'd love to experience the outdoor herpin' there. That shop sounds like the best pet store I can possibly imagine.

I love that it takes something cold to warm your frozen, dead heart. Keep thee warm and fuzzies away!

I always take off my watch and bracelets when I handle snakes, mainly because I get irritated attempting to un-twine them from it when I'm ready to put them away.
Then again, I'm not punkrock. Maybe that's it.

Nope, SE Texas here.

HEY, thanks for the link, I like those Waterland Tubs for turtles at that site! Good god, they're expensive, though. My turtles are out in the back yard in a preformed pond liner I got for a "welcome back to Texas" present last fall. It's working pretty well with the little plant ledges where the turtles can get out, but there's nowhere for a land area. I think I'll put it in the ground and put some sort of low fence around it so they can get into some dirt...

braeden's good about going easily when i draw his attention to or touch his nose to the high branches in his tank. occasionally, i've HAD to put him back to get him to unwind from & unclench my bra straps.

why, exactly?

i never noticed that bit. it's pretty gross, i agree, but man, their iguanas (& everything else) really are in perfect health.

Z> I could also do without all the Jesus talk, but that's Z> just a personal preference.
hah. they sell tshirts & bumper stickers that proclaim "jesus loves me, my snakes, & my tattoos". the newsletter, which contains coupons, also has psalms & such photocopied into it. very strange.

also the owner is adorable & highly flirtatious & very married. damned tease. but he gave me a 15% discount when i bought braeden because he knew jeremy had died the week before (florida king, lived with me for eight years, email if anyone wants his eulogy).

Their "ornate" Nile monitor is also clearly a common Nile, not an ornate. It may (or may not) be prettier than usual, but ornates are a separate species that the picture shows this one plainly is not.

It also, for some strange reason, costs $250. While I approve of selling monitors for more than $200 to keep away the people who can't afford to care for them in the first place, I could easily get a young Nile for less than $40 if I looked (ornate or common).

It also looks a bit small for a yearling, but perhaps the picture is old.

To email me, take out the trash.
