i've had a black 18" circular blood stain in the middle of my living room carpet, from when elliott got sick. the blood sat for several hours before i was able to even begin cleaning it up, so it was well set. i tried everything i could think of to get it out, but nothing worked. i ended up just keeping a throw rug over it, because it was really creepy looking. i like CSI an' all, but not in my living room.
last week, i was perusing the cleaning supply aisle, and saw that Woolite has an oxy-type carpet cleaning product. hmmm. i know that oxy will damage fabric, but i figured the carpet was toast, either way, so i decided what the heck. i tried it, and i'll be damned if it didn't take the entire stain out. i would've been happy with just lightening it to a less murderous color, but it's entirely gone. wheee! you can't even tell where the stain was.
of course, i'll probably end up with a hole in my carpet where i used oxy, but who cares?

yeah, but when you disappear and they see all the blood under the carpet pad...
ok, am i the only person who wonders what will happen when CSI comes after i die?

ha! the carpet will have to be replaced, no question, but mostly because i've spilled paint all over it. i'll put down new carpet when i leave, so that CSI will not have to be called in.

do you have visions of having an unnatural death?

Heh. When I was having trouble getting Pan's ear tips to stop bleeding, and she was shaking her head and splattering blood everywhere, I told Rajesh that he better pray that nothing happens to me. The place looked like a slaughterhouse.

I use oxy on tons of stuff and have never had it damage anything. I always dutifully check a small area of a new fabric first, because my mom taught me to always follow such directions, but never any problems. Bleach, OTOH...

i've had it eat holes in clothing, just like bleach does. it's corrosive enough that i don't use it in my laundry anymore.

there are a couple of spots where rory peed on the carpet the first time he got sick (two or three years ago). i cleaned them with oxy, and was fairly happy with the outcome at the time. now, though, the carpet backing is disintegrating, and the carpet is basically falling apart. still, i thought it was well worth using it again, since the carpet will have to be replaced.

My experience with it has been similar to Paula's. I've used it in laundry, and in the carpet cleaner. Not seen anything bad come of it yet. The laundry gets an extra rinse cycle and I clean up the carpet with plain hot water after using detergent/Oxy; maybe that's the difference?
