Hi,
Excuse my total ignorance but I'm looking for guidance on when I could let my pup near/in water deeper than a few inches? Jake LOVES water and I see loads of owners throwing sticks into the local river for their dogs to retrieve - but I'm so scared Jake will get into difficulty!! I guess my question is do dogs just swim regardless of age (he's a five month Border Collie and pretty big already).

Thanks - he's just dying to have fun in the hot weather Emotion: smile

I start at 8 weeks old with my pups. Wear someting where you can wade in with them at first.

Hi:
Jake's more than ready to swim if he wants to: but I'd be careful about that river. You might try to make his introduction to swimming in still water so he doesn't get worried about the current.

Otherwise, if he's into it, he'll be fine.

If you have slow water, any time is a good time, just be prepared to help him out.
My only dog swimming area is a river that's fast in most areas, so I took puppy Rocky into the river with me, probably at around
4 months.
